The Iowa State University Block and Bridle Club received national recognition at the recent Block and Bridle convention in Louisville. Chapter President Justine Hosch, a senior Animal Science major from Cascade, Iowa, says the ISU club received first place awards for both its web site and its annual yearbook. It also received third place in the club activities division. “We work to have industry representatives come in and interactive meetings, or speak about different aspects that are going on in the industry and upcoming changes,” Hosch told Brownfield from the ISU Block and Bridle headquarters in Ames. “We also work to take students on interest group trips.” AUDIO: Justine Hosch (3 min. MP3) The club hosts shows and sales for a variety of livestock species and educates the public on the importance of agriculture. Hosch, who placed second in the Outstanding Junior Member competition, says belonging to and leading the club benefits her personally and professionally. “I feel that the Block and Bridle Club has prepared me through the network that I have been allowed, and also just the friendships and meeting people have definitely opened up my contacts in Animal Science,” she said. The Block and Bridle Club is one of the largest clubs on the ISU campus with more than 300 members. Brownfield reporter Ken Anderson contributed to this article.
