From : Beet.TV
Mobile video ads targeted at a user's demographics and location could soon become a reality. GoldSpot Media has developed technology that can insert targeted ads into mobile broadcast networks in real time. GoldSpot is already in commercial trials with broadcasters in Europe and Asia, and is currently in talks with broadcasters in the U.S., CEO Srini Dharmaji says. According to Dharmaji, the software is portable across mobile phones and is interoperable with different carriers and original equipment manufacturers. The company has adapted an inventory-sharing business model to make this possible, Mark Hefflinger at Digital Media Wire reports.GoldSpot Media will work with ad networks, mobile operators, and content providers help them take advantage of its technology. The company raised $3 million from Silicon Valley investor Exa Ventures and is currently raising its B round of funding. Andy interviewed Dharmaji at the AlwaysOn conference last month. --Kelsey Blodget, Associate Producer

 From : Channel 9
In this interview, Jared Parsons, a Developer on the Visual Basic IDE, shows us the P/Invoke Interop Assistant available on CodePlex. The tool helps with converting unmanaged C code to managed P/Invoke signatures and vice versa. Say goodbye to digging through random header files or MSDN documentation to find the right constants, structures and signatures. The P/Invoke Interop Assistant does a smarter translation for you using SAL (Source Code Annotation Language). Enjoy, -Beth Massi, Visual Studio Community

 From : popular posts - blip.tv (beta)
Metaverse Meetup: OpenSim & Virtual Worlds Interoperability 7.23.08 IBM and Linden Labs recently announced a historic breakthrough in virtual worlds: "...research teams from the two companies successfully teleported avatars from the Second Life Preview Grid into a virtual world running on an OpenSim server, marking the first time an avatar has moved from one virtual world to another". The topic for this Metaverse Meetup was OpenSim and virtual worlds interoperability and we were very fortunate to be featuring leading pioneers of OpenSim as presenters: David Levine of IBM Research (Zha Ewry in SL) and Adam Frisby of DeepThink Labs (Adam Zaius in SL). Tish Shute (Tara5 Oh in SL), who writes about OpenSim on her blog Ugotrade, was guest moderator and Global Kids generously hosted us in their space. From : Beet.TV
CULVER CITY, CA -- The success of digital entertainment will result from true interoperability between consumer devices, says Mitch Singer, Chief Technology Officer of Sony Pictures. Earlier this month I visited him on on the Sony lot. He is leading a a group of entertainment executives who want to create new standards in downloadable media that will work across multiple devices. Much in the way the DVD's work across multiple devices, so should digital media he says. There is a big movement underway in Hollywood to unify formats and Mitch is a central figure. After witnessing the just concluded DVD format war and the dominance of Apple, it's hard to see how things can be unified. We will covering this story in the days ahead with interviews with thought leaders from IBM and the University of Southern California. Keep an eye on this one. -- Andy Plesser, Executive Producer

From : Channel 9: The Videos
The IE team has been very hard at work on IE 8 for the past several months and they hit a huge milestone last Friday evening. The IE dev team checked in a bunch of code that included several new features implemented in the core rendering engine that enable IE to pass the ACID 2 test! This is great news for web developers: IE 8 is going to be our most standards compliant browser to date. Passing ACID 2 is really a combined side effect of all the new features that have been developed for IE 8. In this interview, I sit down with IE GM Dean Hachamovitch and Architect Chris Wilson to discuss this milestone and dig into compliance in general, lessons learned from IE 7 and discuss the IE team's ultimate goal of de facto interoperability. Of course, no Channel 9 interview is complete without meeting some of the devs who actually write technology so we take a walk from Dean's office to super developer Alex Mogilevsky's office to discuss what's been done to provide IE with the core rendering features that enable IE 8 to pass the ACID 2 test. We also chat with CSS guru Markus Mielke who was instrumental in identifying and planning the feature set required to pass ACID 2. Tune in! From : PodTech.net: Technology and Entertainment Video Network
A few weeks after former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge told me that the biggest deficiency in homeland security is public safety communications, analysts at market research firm INPUT released a report that says nationwide interoperability for first responder communication systems is probably 10 years away. Here's an interview with two of INPUT's public safety analysts and a look at their report, which is an indictment of our nation's commitment to fixing one of the biggest homeland security gaps identified on 9/11. From : Channel 9: The Videos
Greg Leake is very passionate about loosely-coupled service-oriented n-tiered application architecture. He has created an impressive service-oriented application called StockTrader. We will be highlighting his great work over the coming days with a four part mini-series on StockTrader. Most of the series will be comprised of demos of StockTrader in action and explanations of what's going on behind the scenes in this truly exemplary example of how to create a powerful client-server application that is based on a loosely-coupled service architecture. Further, the interoperability story here is excellent (one of the great advantages of standards-based protocols...).This is Part 2: Demo of StockTrader in action, discussion of architecture and implementation.See part 1, introduction and deep architectural overview, here. From the stocktrader site: This application is an end-to-end sample application for .NET Enterprise Application Server technologies. It is a service-oriented application based on Windows Communication Foundation (.NET 3.0) and ASP.NET, and illustrates many of the .NET enterprise development technologies for building highly scalable, rich enterprise-connected applications. It is designed as a benchmark kit to illustrate alternative technologies within .NET and their relative performance. The application offers full interoperability with J2EE and IBM WebSphere's Trade 6.1 sample application. As such, the application offers an excellent opportunity for developers to learn about .NET and building interoperable, service-oriented applications. Tune in! Download the Video Watch the Video

 From : blip.tv (beta)
synopsis from Peter Kaminski's blog: The storyline: The 20th century, with its read-only labor, culture and politics, was weirdly totalitarian. The 21st century is a revival of a different (normal, given history) way to organize and produce within society. To fulfill this, we all need to practice free culture, and demand support of it. He talked about a new thing, the problem that the various free culture licenses are not interoperable yet. (Interoperability - value diversity and opportunity over control.) This causes problems because it creates islands of free content that can't be mixed together. So he suggests we set up a body -- he recommends the Software Freedom Law Center -- that can certify licenses as "close enough" and then have the various license providers add compatibility clauses to existing licenses so derivative works can be relicensed to a "close enough" license. More: http://peterkaminski.com/2006/08/wikimania_plenary_larry_lessig.html Lessig bio is on conference proceedings wiki http://wikimania2006.wikimedia.org/wiki/Presenters/Lawrence_Lessig Lessig Blog: http://www.lessig.org/blog/ Production: Video was shot from last row of the audience with Canon Optura miniDV cam mostly balanced on my head in lieu of a tripod... not recommended for people subject to seasickness. No tapes were used... FireWire direct to iMovie. Minor snippets omitted while waking up the camera from tape-saver mode.
