A Room in the Clouds in San Francisco
from Luxury Travel Hotel Nightlife Restaurants Vacation October 03, 2008
San Francisco, the city by the bay, is located about an hour flight north of Los Angeles or a six hour drive from the city of angels. A convenient area of San Fran in which to call home base when traveling is the financial district. For a real âAmericanâ breakfast, our Swiss friends enjoyed Dottieâs True Blue Cafe. While the wait is long--at least 45 minutes--itâs well worth it! The place only has 10 tables. Plenty of locals frequent this place for the homemade foods and flavors. journeyPod sat down with Michelle Loane, Director of Sales & Marketing, Mandarin Oriental San Francisco for some inside scoop. Letâs take a listen... Check out the ambient sounds of Digitube and their song, Morph to Asian Sunset.

Germany | Pilot walkouts ground nearly 1,000 Lufthansa flights Meanwhile the German division of British no-frills airline easyJet said it hoped to cash in if Lufthansa is hit by lengthy strikes. But instead they found themselves in Bodrum airport, Turkey where they then had to pay a 10 visa charge... World's most expensive tourist attractions A family of four would have to pay 549.30 pounds if they wanted to take part in all 10 activities in London, compared with 386 pounds in Paris, 376pounds in New York and 216 pounds in Rome. Airlines deliberately ignoring safety regulations and getting away with it ...the majority of European pilots do not always report defects as and when they occur. They are delayed until it is more convenient for the airlines to carry out repairs. International travel booming despite oil prices A report commissioned by Amadeus also showed that growing global migration would fuel thirst for international travel. Many migrants remain strongly connected to their country of origin with many reasons to return, such as visiting family and friends...

Yes I Can Jon Haggins Memoir
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) April 21, 2008
Jon Haggins Memoir traces my tracks from a small segregated town in Florida in the 40s and early 50s before the Black Revolution. Then arriving in New York City for a culture shock that knocked my socks off.I share my beginning as a young Black fashion designer, which was a novelty at that time, to a fairy tale wedding to one of my models. I was also the darliing of the fashion editors at that time. I began a life in the NY cabaret circuit after closing my business, which had a lot of ups and downs. After returning to the fashon business many celebrities bought my fashions and many awards were bestowed upon me. I closed my business after several years because I was undercapitalized. I took a little time out to decide what I wanted to do. I landed in the travel business as a tour operator, then a travel and food writer and finally a motivational speaker and producer and host of GlobeTrotter TV. It's been a bumpy road but though it all, I've learned to endure and face life with a positive attitude. Throught drive, determination and persistence I have survived. Yes I Can will inspire the reader that anything is possible, all you need is a dream and then reach for the stars.

Travelography: Tourism Blues - US Style and Europe Style
from Travelography March 17, 2008
I cover two basic themes in today's podcast.First, the latest news on international tourist arrivals to the US is almost as bad as the value of the US dollar. While international ravel in the rest of the world has grown 28% since 2000, in the US it has declined 11%, which is a lost of about US$100 billion to the US economy. So who do we blame for this situations? The second topic starts in Greece, where a cruise ship ran aground near Athens last week causing the evacuation of the passengers and staff, though no serious injuries. Staying in Greece, however, I then transition to a discussion of the impact of labor strikes these past few month on travel in Europe. Greek workers held a 3-hour strike last week and may hold a full-day stoppage on March 19th. British Airways pilots voted to strike in late February, though they did not actually walk out. French taxi drivers brought Paris to a stand still earlier in Febraury. And German and French railway workers held strikes and snail-paced slow downs late last year. Why does Europe have so many labor actions of the stort that directly impact international and domestict travelers? All of this weeks stories come from the International Herlad Tribune.
