Mark Fox Interview
from Art - recent posts - blip.tv (beta) June 09, 2008
Mark Fox Dust 29 May - 29 August 2008 In 2001, Mark Fox felt burdened by the possessions that crowded his Cincinnati studio, sometimes wondering if he owned them or they owned him. Rather than sell, give, or toss them away, however, Fox embarked on what he describes as a meditation on ownership. Using black ink on white paper and allowing some white to show through to form the details, over the next two years, he drew each of his belongings at full size or larger. Second International Artists Airshow
from recent posts - blip.tv (beta) May 01, 2008
The Arts Catalyst and Landscape+Arts Network Services presented the 2nd International Artists Airshow on 30 June 2007 at Gunpowder Park, Sewardstone Road, Waltham Abbey, Essex, UK. This was a day of international artists projects reflecting the explosive and ephemeral nature of Gunpowder Park a former testing ground for high explosives - and investigating the artists' almost impossible dream of flight. Australian artist Ben Blakebrough s astonishing one-person flying craft Winged Self points at a lost future of personal flight. Ruth MacLennan (UK) worked with a flying eagle to document the Airshow crowds. Anne Bean, Mark Anderson and Nick Sales (UK) created a new black cloud to mingle with those already lurking overhead, and a white mist which swept away across the park. Around the park, installations by Sonia Khurana (India) and HeHe - Helen Evans and Heiko Hansen (France) could be discovered. Rachel Chapman (UK) mapped the air by collecting airborne spores from people s clothing. Environmental artist Brandon Ballengee (USA) led bug walks in the park. The event was accompanied by a symposium 'The Aesthetics of Impossibility' featuring the Airshow artists and including the premiere of Simon Faithfull s new work Gravity Sucks, as well as artists Janette Paris and Usman Haque, and cloudspotting expert Gavin Pretor-Pinney. The event was MC d by Simon Munnery More information about the event - http://www.artscatalyst.org/projects/space/airshow2.html

Strawberry Holiday : A Fishbowl View
from recent posts bookmarked by malburns - blip.tv (beta) October 08, 2007
Strawberry Holiday has always been one of my favorite artists in Second Life. Her colorful paintings and drawings or a perfect blend of child-like wonder and womanly wisdom. She recently took her paintings into the thrid dimension by creating a large installation based on the colors, textures, and themes found in her paintings. The result is a dreamy, colorful, GORGEOUS, 3D experience.

mock-up showreel #1
from Vimeo / svanes's uploaded videos March 27, 2007
getting my showreel together, though this one is just a test, a mock-up, to see how certain things fit together... editing and assembling a showreel is time consuming and hard work... feel free to comment. Cast: svanes

the corrupted kitchen (part one)
from Vimeo / svanes's uploaded videos March 22, 2007
offering no pretensions abouts culinary authenticity, this very unserious video of a cooking fiasco is ultimately a failure in itself - and i'm posting it as a reminder for myself to develop this idea and make it better. making a cooking video is hard - and while i attempted to make a mock cooking episode with its central theme as failure - my sense of restraint is a detriment to this little project. the failures in the video are too small. it would have been much funnier if there had been a stronger emotional response and if there had been a genuine kitchen catastrophe. still, there are some amusing details here, and... well, i'll leave it at that. the last thing the world needs is a culinary innovator... this video was created on the fly one evening while i was waiting for my wife, who was working late. i decided to surprise her by baking a cake (something i never do), and then i decided to make a video of this process - a video that evolved into an idea of white trash cooking as an inadvertant by-product of scandinavian cuisine, which then further developed into an idea of how fun it would be to make a cooking show based on failure, betrayal and fiasco. i still want to develop that idea. this video is almost eight minutes long... yeesh. it moves sort of quickly... you'll see. ADDITIONAL NOTE ADDED MAY 1, 2007: i've wanted to take this video down now, but out of respect for the people who've commented on it, i'm leaving it up - but my intention upon visiting this page today was to delete the file... but the film has received a stay of execution... downtown los angeles (a night at billy's coffee shop)
from Vimeo / svanes's uploaded videos March 19, 2007
a walk at night in downtown los angeles unveils a very cool underground art scene that reminded me of berlin, with footage of a live concert and video installation. what started out as an evening with very modest expectations turned out to be very pleasant and inspiring. this clip is fairly long and more a loosely edited documentary. ominous clouds over venice
from Vimeo / svanes's uploaded videos March 08, 2007
last week, just before leaving for manhattan, there was a very localized storm system over venice. when i say over venice, i mean, literally over venice and only venice (parts of santa monica too)... the clouds were soot-bellied, to be modest, and everywhere else, the skies were blue. this is a film taken from my rooftop - it is very long (5 minutes, 48 mb) and barely edited but it does depict that unusually localized quality of this mini storm system. i've never seen anything like it. so, if you are into weather, then this film is for you. otherwise, look away, there's nothing to see here. i felt like i was walking with a cloud over my head, having my own donnie darko moment. to boot, there's some shots towards the end of the snowcapped mountains (the san gabriel mountains) behind the los angeles skyline.
