A peaceful yet strong short movie that recreates the look and feel of watercolor painting using 3D graphics. (Source: Harvard Film Archive) "Time seems to pass quietly at a slightly decelerated speed and we see carp and dragon flies at one with the pond. Looking at the scene, the word elegance will inevitably drift into the mind of the viewer on the gentle, pleasant breeze." (Source: Con-Can) The movie has been realized in 2002 by Huang Ying for his master's degree in animation at the Beijing Film Academy, where he is now an instructor. UPDATE: Remuxed the clip. Teacher leave those kids alone, Hey, teacher, leave those kids alone! Mathematics is one of the greatest creations of the human mind. Too bad that a lot of children are taught it the way you'll see in this short movie. I wonder how many Einsteins and Newtons the humankind lost this way... Based on the poem with the same name written by Jacques Prévert, Page d'ecriture follows a child in his classroom, during a boring Math lesson. The kid couldn't care less about what the teacher is saying, and dreams of being free. As a bird... Enjoyable and bright, the short "keeps it simple" to show the playful spirit of the children while it explodes and spreads all over the classroom and, then, to the audience. Simple doesn't (obviously) mean poor. The mix of 2D and 3D animation is as neat as effective, the models are nicely crafted and the sound more than does its job. Page d'ecriture is the graduation movie of Filippo Giacomelli, Fabio Tonetto and Juan Francisco Correa Diaz, three students of the CSC, Italian national cinema school. Original music by Fulvio Chiara. Since the short is in Italian language, it comes in two flavours. The original AVI file, kindly sent me by Juan Correa, and an MPEG-4 clip to which I added English subtitles, mostly based on this translation of the original poem. La matematica è una delle più grandi creazioni dell'intelletto umano. Peccato che a tanti bambini venga insegnata nel modo illustrato nel corto. Mi chiedo quanti Einstein e Newton l'umanità abbia perso in questo modo... Basato sull'omonima poesia di Jacques Prévert, Page d'ecriture narra di un bambino, durante una noiosa lezione di matematica. Al bimbo non potrebbe importare meno ciò che l'insegnante sta spiegando. Sogna di essere libero. Come un uccello... Piacevolmente solare, il corto "resta sul semplice" per mostrare lo spirito giocoso dei bambini mentre "esplode" e si diffonde prima nell'aula e poi oltre, fino al pubblico. Semplice non significa scadente, anzi! Il mix di animazione 2D e 3D è tanto efficace quanto pulito, i modelli sono ben realizzati e il sonoro fa ben più che la sua parte. Page d'ecriture è il corto di diploma di Filippo Giacomelli, Fabio Tonetto e Juan Francisco Correa Diaz, tre studenti del Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. Musiche originali di Fulvio Chiara. Siccome il corto è in italiano, è disponibile in due gusti.
