134,857 Views - "God's Joke" has become the biggest and most known 'Blues Song' ever to come out of Redondo Beach and the South Bay. Ever Linked by the Zeus Robot and www.Somanymp3s.com, This song easily surpasses even top artists in viewings as it clearly demonstrates heartfelt songwriting straight from the mind - but also straight from the soul. In late 1990, into the fall/ winter of 1991's January, Clark Hagins took his love for bands like the Faces, Lou Reed, Humble Pie, Iggy Pop, and the Rolling Stones and crammed them into tight blues based "60's" like rock tracks. Alternative rock was the coming attraction in 1990, and Hagins knew it,...far ahead of others and also seeing the arena filling potential for 'grunge rock' mixed with blues and indie pop, his penning of the rock opera "Going Legit' and the story of "Maury" the Iraq war veteren from George H. Bushes first Iraq 'Gulf war' in 1990 / 91,...who comes home to homelessness and black prostitution on the streets of San Pedro California - after trying to "Prove himself" in the war for his country oozes exudes "God's Joke" among some other 72 songs as bassist Rick Carmody and Hagins had set out to create rock's ultimate "Rock Opera"....In the end , only 8 of the some 72 songs emerged on a cd and limited cassette printings due to grave money issues for the band and no recording label. "Going Legit" would come together spectacularly nonetheless with tracks like "Star", BEN IS DEAD, and Hey Negrita and the band would severely tighten their loud powerful three man live shows with drummers Martin Silva and then later Punker Greg Tarpley - "God's Joke" would be the glue that held the fragile story together as it appears late in the middle of the album as a master 'blues cut' ,...only about three minutes long, it is nonetheless very important in the "Concept". Things would culminate for the band at a climax show in June 1991 at Wilson Park In Torrance as Tarpley's drumming before a huge crowd propelled the tiny G.e. to a standing ovation as the band performed all of "Going Legit's Tracks before a hushed and attentive crowd,...."22nd Street" was probobly the hallmark song of the set what with it's 'the Cure' like leanings and obvious u2 edge.... At the Hermosa Saloon on August 16, 1991, the mighty G.e. struck yet again with a fabulous three piece 'trio' performance that was filmed and captures perfectly the high energy of the band as they boorishly ram their way through 'Going Legit' Songs before a wild crowd, fashionably and grungily out of tune and angry as hell,..Clark Hagins yells with spirit into the microphone and hammers his ibanez guitar nearly to death during "Hey Negrita",...the blood spattered Ibanez was later smashed at a gig with Martin Silva on drums in 1992, ..one of G.e's last....
