Lissy Trullie: She Said

Lissy Trullie: She Said

from Insomnia Radio: Daily Dose MP3 Blog on July 08, 2009
Lizzy McChesney, better known by the stage name Lissy Trullie, is an American singer and former model. She also performs with her band named Lissy Trullie, and released her debut EP, ‘Self-Taught Learner’, in February 2009. Trullie was born in Washington, D.C. and moved to New York City at the age of 16 with her mother. She attended Walnut Hill School, a boarding school in Natick, Massachusetts with a focus on performing arts, and then attended Parsons in Greenwich Village, New York City, where she studied graphic design. Trullie performed at art openings, but soon gravitated towards the downtown rock scene. Trullie spent time working as a model, a dishwasher, a janitor, and a disc jockey at the Beatrice Inn. She has appeared in the fashion magazines Elle, SOMA, and Jalouse, and was the face of actress Chloë Sevigny’s clothing line. Trullie released her debut EP, Self-Taught Learner, in February 2009 on American Myth Recordings, whose cover features a woman’s posterior clad in hot pants, taken from a 1970s pornographic magazine. She has signed with the record label Wichita Recordings, which will release her EP in Europe. Trullie performs with a four piece rock band, also named Lissy Trullie, which includes Trullie on vocals and guitar, Josh Elrod on drums, Eben D’Amico, formerly bassist with Saves the Day, on lead guitar, and Ian Fenger on bass. The group often performs a cover song in their live sets, including Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend”, Hot Chip’s “Ready for the Floor”, which is included on their debut EP, and Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab”. Black Keys Drummer Has New Band Called Drummer

Black Keys Drummer Has New Band Called Drummer

from Stereogum on July 08, 2009
Dan Auerbach opted to use his given name for his solo project, but his Black Keys partner Patrick Carney's taking a a shadowier route, titling his new band after his role in the Akron duo. Even though he's Drummer's bassist. The hook? Everyone in the Ohio "feel good" quintet is also a drummer, it's just that 4 out of 5 of them are now playing instruments we're not used to seeing them handle: Teeth Of Hydra/Harriet The Spy skinsman Jamie Stillman covers guitar, ex-Party of Helicopters drummer Jon Finley does guitar/vocals, and Houseguest drummer Steve Clements is on keys/vocals. Staying within his comfort zone, ex-Ghostman & Sandman drummer Greg Boyd gets to sit down and hit the drums. Continue reading Black Keys Drummer Has New Band Called Drummer...

New Almighty Defenders - "Bow Down And Die" (Stereogum Premiere)

New Almighty Defenders - "Bow Down And Die" (Stereogum Premiere)

from Stereogum on July 07, 2009
After collaborating with GZA on "The Drop I Hold," the Black Lips have found a more seamless super grouping via the Almighty Defenders, their new project with fellow garage howlers King Khan and Mark Sultan. We're told the idea for the band emerged after the Lips fled India and ended up crashing at Khan's place in Berlin. The 11 tracks were recorded at Moon Studios in said city. Take a listen to the booming, chivalrous third song "Bow Down and Die" to get an idea of what to expect. You can also inspect the album art's upside down cross more clearly and then try to figure out what "Death Cult Soup n' Salad" will sound like. New Fool's Gold Video - "Surprise Hotel"

New Fool's Gold Video - "Surprise Hotel"

from Stereogum on July 07, 2009
Fool's Gold is Luke Top and Lewis Pesacov, with assists from folks in fellow L.A. outfits Foreign Born and Glasser. Last seen here opening for Cat Power, we then mentioned they touted "love for benga (Kenya-based), juju (rooted in Nigeria), and the Congolese genre called soukous (mother of kwassa kwassa, maybe you've heard of it)." Here we see them in a montage of performances on the sun-streaked Afro-pop of their buzzy single "Surprise Hotel." Apparently they're singing in Hebrew, but of course they are. New Times New Viking - "No Time, No Hope"

New Times New Viking - "No Time, No Hope"

from Stereogum on July 07, 2009
Lo-fi Columbus, Ohio noise-pop trio Times New Viking are following up their 2008 breakthrough Rip It Off and subsequent Stay Awake EP with their fourth proper full-length, Born Again Revisited. In the announcement over at Matador, Gerard Cosloy cheekily claims they delivered the master recordings via VHS and that it features "25% higher fidelity" than last batch of songs, "a percentage our own engineering staff has confirmed after hourse (sic) of exhaustive laboratory tests." He also notes:A cursory glance at the American rock underground reveals a landscape littered with well-intentioned but vastly inferior bands who've caught the lo-fi bug.Gerard is selling you the record, yes, but he has good taste (mostly) and it's hard to deny TNV have a knack for the actual hooks lacking in many come-lately crews of a similar fidelity. See, for instance, the timely "No Time, No Hope." Continue reading New Times New Viking - "No Time, No Hope"...

New Blitzen Trapper Video - "Black River Killer"

New Blitzen Trapper Video - "Black River Killer"

from Stereogum on July 07, 2009
Progress is being made on a Furr followup, but still Blitzen Trapper are quite done celebrating that last LP just yet. Or maybe the late break of the "Black River Killer" clip is due to its logistics, which would be understandable. Drummer Brian Koch tells Spinner: "Black River Killer" represents not only our first attempt at a fully live action video, but also a massive collaborative effort on the part of at least 120 people in and around Portland. The result is an impressively cinematic work of storytelling for a band signed to (essentially) an indie, with lots of sets, costumes, and a boatload of creepily masked Pacific Northwesterners. L.D., Zomby Remix Animal Collective

L.D., Zomby Remix Animal Collective

from Stereogum on July 07, 2009
When we posted the trippy, Flexible video for Merriweather Post Pavillion's second single "Summertime Clothes," we made more than a passing mention of the track's 4-song EP (12" and digital), posting one of its three remixes, a smooth, skittering take via LA's Dâm-Funk. The full single came out today, so its time to take a listen to its other two remixes by forward-thinking UK dubstep producers L.D. and Zomby. They both find distinctive, appropriately adventurous entrance ways into the track. Moving away from the usual suspects and finding sympathetic ears elsewhere worked.
