SomaCow 243: Who’s Got Talent?
from SomaCow November 07, 2008
SomaCow Media is proud to present SomaCow brought to you by insert your show name here. In this, their finest hour, the boys put out the call, talked about quitting smoking, and did some impersonations. Fine, indeed! So SomaCow is ready to expand. No, not our bellies, but our catalog of shows! Right now we have, of course, SomaCow. We also have The Sports Buzz, Just Push Play (whenever they aren t at a convention), and Say Anything (when they aren t getting new jobs, having babies, moving ). So while we have a nice little variety of shows, we want to get more. We all know you have stuff to say, you definitely let us know here, live on Saturdays in chat, on Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and email! So what kind of show would you do? Would it be just you? Advice? Music? Chat on your favorite hobby? Let us know, become part of our family. After this call out, Ross decided he wants to do a show so be sure to tune in this week as the guys give him a chance at hosting! Of course what would 3rd hour be without you guessed it Hulk Impersonations! Now was it The Incredible Hulk? Or the other incredible Hulk Hogan. Guess you ll have to listen and see. Geoff is trying to quit smoking. I am really so proud of him. I know that he is trying to be healthier for himself, me, and Rowan. I really know he was willing to try anything when he agreed to try out a laser clinic While it might not have worked completely, I do have to say that that first day he was very pleasant! (even if he was sleeping away most of it). So what methods have you tried to quit smoking? What have worked? What have failed? We know very few people who have actually successfully quit. My dad is one of them. He just stopped one day. He didn t tell anyone, he just stopped. He had smoked for 40 or so years and poof, gone. He is also the only honest one I have known who said he still wants one every day and he s not smoked for over 10 years. I quit I got pregnant though and while it was physically tough, the emotional side and elation of being pregnant made it pretty easy in comparison. I think I d go back if it wasn t for her and us nursing but I hope that I don t go back when we stop guess we ll just have to get pregnant again! Geoff s Weekly Constitutional this week was on John Hodgman s new book, More Information Than You Require which you can get here! And while you are there, check out John s site. Fascinating stuff. We love this man! And his books are great, from cover to back cover, to back cover inset to front cover inset to back of the actual hard cover of the book and all the pages in between. Thank you all for being such great listeners, I know the guys appreciate it. Keep those comments and emails coming. We all love doing what we do and we love to hear how much you love what we do! Stuff to pass the time until the next episode of SomaCow: The PC guy on love and space aliens Tila Tequila switches from Yahoo spawn to Mac guy [Celebritards] Barack Obama: New US President Digitally !! What am I Missy? A Visit To The Marvel Comics Headquarters

Spin-ematical: New on DVD for 10/21
from Cinematical October 21, 2008
Above: Incredible Hulk, Flight of the Red Balloon, The Strangers Incredible Hulk "There once was an angry young man..." sounds like a fairy tale, but the rebooted Hulk got a huge leg up with the casting of the intense Edward Norton as the scientist who turns green with rage. This Hulk has narrative problems, but as a straight-ahead action picture it keeps a pretty good beat as it rocks along, and definitely benefits from Norton and Tim Roth as his nemesis; Liv Tyler and William Hurt also star. Scott examined all the features of the 3-disk Special Edition on DVD; also available in a single-disk DVD edition and on Blu-ray. Buy it. Flight of the Red Balloon Juliette Binoche hires a Taiwanese film student as nanny for her son, and magical moments begin. Jeffrey M. Anderson said Binoche was "simply miraculous" and that the film itself "could be one of those magic moments that people could appreciate if only they would take the time." Now's the time, people! Hou Hsiao-Hsien is an amazing filmmaker and this a perfect alternative to Hulk's smash/bang. Available on what looks like a bare-bones DVD. Rent it. The Strangers It's Liv Tyler week! She and Scott Speedman play a troubled couple besieged by masked strangers in their own home. Writer/director Bryan Bertino takes a commendably low-key approach to their night of terror, but there were far too many cheap scares and telegraphed thrills for me. Eugene Novikov was much more impressed, however, so decide for yourself. Available on DVD and Blu-ray; both include R-rated and unrated versions. The unrated cut includes about five minutes of additional footage, mostly near the climax. Rent it. After the jump: Indies on DVD (Go-Getter! B-Ballers! Ben Stein!), Blu-ray (James Bond!), and Collector's Corner (Looney Tunes! Gangsters!). SomaCow 197: Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na
from SomaCow July 23, 2008
SomaCow Media is proud to present SomaCow, brought to you in this hour by Ma Bell. For all your Timmy down the well style communication, you really cannot get better than Em Bar Que. In this hour, we discussed my struggle to stay home while the best damn movies get released, we take a call from Friend of the Show Chrispy, and Mickey gives some Life Couching. Coaching? Same thing! It s been no easy feat, I have to admit. The joy of seeing a life I helped bring into the world grow before my very eyes is immense, but does come with certain drawbacks. It seems most simple things, such as going to the grocery store, now require the logic skill of your garden variety fox, chicken, feed riddle. Take a trip from my house to say, The Willow Tree in Sanford. I cannot leave the wife at home and just take the baby, because I have no milks. I cannot send the wife with the baby and have me sit here, because I do not get to eat sausages and drink Köstritzer. I cannot leave the baby here and take the wife, because that is the sort of thing they make Lifetime TV movies about. And so I take all three at once, and we stop every, oh, five minutes along the way to refill the baby with nourishing milks from boob. Otherwise, I would be the guy that drives around listening to a kid cry, and that s just gay! So I opt for the home skillet most days, we have plenty to watch between the DVRs, and for the most part, life has been pretty grand. Baby smiles, dogs like the baby, baby likes the ceiling fan, and everything is straight jack pudding, yeah? Then Hollywood released the bomb. Back to back to back, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Ironman, The Incredible Hulk 2, The Mummy III, and finally, Batman. Let me be clear. I am not a Batman dork. But I did see the Michael Keaton effort 5 times. In the theater. Twice in a row, once. And now I come to terms with the fact that I, the most conscientious and decent citizen ever formed, will never see these films on the big screen, because I am not a big enough douche to drag my kid, who, as Chrispy so eloquently reminds me, has ZERO interest in seeing a movie (sitting in the dark muffling boob), to some movieplex just to ruin the other patron s experience with the mewling of a child. Do I want a medal for this? Hell no. Well, yeah. But I really want other parents to take heed of my behavior. NO ONE LIKES YOUR KID BUT YOU. Stop taking them to the movies. Anyway, we get into some good movie talk, and discuss some characters we liked growing up, and generally just do the deed dirt cheap, all for you, in this, our finest hour. We screened the following gems - Check em out! Former Fat Boys - Imaginate April March - Chick Habit
