About 130 workers were finally laid off on October 8, 2009 as the ongoing labor battle at the Stella D'Oro cookie factory came to an end in the Kingsbridge neighborhood of the northwestern Bronx. Former owner Brynwood Partners closed the factory while Lance, Inc., the new owners of the Stella D'Oro brand plan to move the machinery, but not the workers, to a non-union factory in Ashland, Ohio. About 75 former workers, community supporters and labor activists arranged a protest outside the factory on October 9 to condemn the decision.
