Are South Asians sneaking across the border?

Are South Asians sneaking across the border?

from recent posts tagged kong - blip.tv (beta) on October 17, 2009
Duration: 250
http://www.scmp.com/video/ When we think about illegal immigrants or IIs, we normally picture mainlanders sneaking into Hong Kong. However, one man thinks that recently there has been an increase in South Asian "system abusers" (as he calls them) who are heading in the opposite direction. This Kowloon-based immigration consultant, who has requested his identity to remain anonymous, thinks he has located an "unofficial border crossing" on the banks of Deep Bay, north of Tin Shui Wai and south of Shenzhen. From Lau Fau Shan, a busy fish market, mainland China is visible through the haze and it is here that he suspects many people cross here illegally - under the noses of the nearby police station and the Immigration Department. The passengers, he claims, are asylum seekers or those who have refugee status and therefore cannot leave or enter Hong Kong through official channels. In this video, we try to witness these vessels departing Lau Fau Shan.

El Dia De Los Huevitos by Celerino Estrada

El Dia De Los Huevitos by Celerino Estrada

My name is Celerino Estrada. I am an immigrant. I moved to the U.S. when I was sixteen years old. I am from a town in Michoacan, Mexico. What I really like about Mexico are the traditions. And here we combined them with the ones from the U.S. One of the traditions in Mexico that my mom used to tell us was that during religious holidays we shouldn't shower in Saturday before Easter because we would turn into fish. Here in the U.S. there is a different tradition. Here people go and hide the Easter eggs. I am father of four children. I live in the city of Oakland. So on the Easter topic I'd like to talk about a tradition we have here at Chabot Park in Oakland. On Easter Saturday all my family gets together in the park. Cousins, brothers, uncles everyone. We go to the park and have a party, a picnic. We cook carne asada, beans, rice, everything that we eat in Mexico. And once the food is over we go and hide the eggs. The women are the ones who fill the eggs with candy while the men take care of the food. After we eat all the kids go and look for the eggs. There are many people who go there, Latinos, White people, Black people. And everyone searches for the eggs. The families have a good time. We get together and reminisce about the traditions in the U.S. and Mexico. It is a very nice event because all my family who lives in the U.S. gets together to celebrate. We enjoy ourselves, we eat, and at the end everyone wins. And the children are happy with life. Even though is not the same as is back home, this is one tradition we found here that we like. We have adapted to what is here. So this was the story I wanted to tell from the traditions Mexico and U.S. These are some of the really nice things that I have learned from here. I will continue living here. And I think my children are going to follow the same traditions we have taught them.

BNPtv caught up with Donna Bailey on her campaign trail. Donna Bailey the Party Candidate for Upper Beeding Parish Council on February 7th, having been refused co-option normally extended to all parties, shows her pace and commitment as she confidently leaflets and canvasses her neighbours in the village. http://www.instablogs.com/ Mexican military patrols Tijuana In the government's latest effort to flush out corrupt police, Mexican Military Troops removed 500 local police officers and took over law enforcement in Tijuana, where drug hitmen have killed over 220 people, including children, in the past month. The army aims eventually to suspend the remaining 1,500 officers and gradually rid the Tijuana force of corrupt police where some officers openly work as hitmen for drug gangs. Widespread corruption among Mexico's badly paid police is undermining President Felipe Calderon's army-backed war on drug gangs. Mexico must continue purging corrupt officers while increasing pay and incentives to loyal, non corrupt officials. Surge in racist crimes after Obama victory Barack Obama's historic election as America's first black president has led to a surge of racist incidents across the United States. Since the closing weeks of the campaign, there has been a real and significant, white backlash break out which is only getting worse. Hundreds of incidents of cross burnings, death threats, Obama effigies hanging in nooses to ugly racial incidents in schoolyards across the country are getting reported with increased regularity. The increase in racist incidents can be attributed to the non-white immigration and rising unemployment. Add to all of that the idea of a black man in the White House and you have a very significant number of whites who feel as if they've lost everything, that the country built by their forefathers has somehow been stolen from them. It seems that whites within America have begun experiencing identity crisis. Ballot empowers women Usually, the word Kargil brings back memories of the India-Pakistan conflict of 1999 when Pakistani intruders walked miles into Indian Territory leading to skirmishes which gradually grew into what came to be known later as Kargil war. Amid it all, Kargil district stands out as a shining example of empowerment of women at the grassroots level, by way of enfranchisement. Despite sub zero temperature enthusiasm of voters was high as they were seen in long queues in front of polling stations hours before the polling started. The reports indicated that women in traditional colorful attire out-numbered the men at the polling stations. The district has more female voters than male voters. Perhaps no other district in the entire north India, in any of the states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh or Uttaranchal enjoys this distinction. There is still hope for women s empowerment in J&K through ballot. http://www.instablogs.com/
