New Image of Heath Ledger in 'Parnassus' Hits!New Image of Heath Ledger in 'Parnassus' Hits!

If you're like me and didn't get to peek at the teaser for Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, at least you can whet your Gilliam appetite with a new image of Heath Ledger, which you can see a crop of on the right (and in its full glory over at Slashfilm). The image is certainly chilling, between the stern look, mask, and memories of what happened almost one year ago. I just hope that between the spectacular save with Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell and the talents of Gilliam, that Ledger's death doesn't taint the film. I found it fairly easy to separate Ledger and the Joker in The Dark Knight, because it was all about darkness, angst, and eeriness. But this morality tale? My fingers and toes are crossed that the chill I get looking at this picture doesn't translate to the big screen. Ledger deserves a one-two amazing punch at the end of his career, and Gilliam deserves some luck. Don't you agree?Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Images Permalink | Email this | Comments

Fan Rant: We Want to See Heath Ledger's Last Film!Fan Rant: We Want to See Heath Ledger's Last Film!

Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fandom, Johnny Depp, Fan Rant While Heath Ledger's role as Joker in The Dark Knight might go down as his last (and greatest) complete role, technically his final performance will come in Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. In a weird way it's almost fitting that Gilliam -- who's been cursed for years now -- would wind up being the filmmaker to last work with Ledger. Not only has Ledger's next-to-last film broken almost every box office record to date, but folks are so afraid of a Gilliam flick that even with the marketing machine that is the death of Heath Ledger, Hollywood still doesn't want to go near Dr. Parnassus. A story in The Hollywood Reporter last week claims Ledger could be in a "position of having one of the biggest- grossing movies in Hollywood history out at the same time he's in a movie hunting for an domestic distribution deal." And the scary part of this is that when Ledger passed away, Hollywood heavyweights like Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell stepped in to finish the film for their deceased friend. With ALL THAT, it's still a risky movie to get behind. One "distribution guru" added, "For all the elements in this film, it is a Terry Gilliam picture, and as much as you want a movie of his to be good, you have to be careful." Poor Gilliam ... the guy just can't catch a break. Well, unless you want to see Dr. Parnassus. Wouldn't it be kinda spooky if one death helped revive another's career? If we, as an audience, had the ability to choose between the doom and gloom of mourning an actor's death or the light and joy that comes with helping a beloved filmmaker get back on track?Continue reading Fan Rant: We Want to See Heath Ledger's Last Film! Filed under: Drama, Theatrical Reviews, The Weinstein Co., Cinematical Indie Movies about ex-convicts and their difficulty assimilating back into society generally begin with the prison release, during which the protagonist typically looks downright miserable. At first thought, I recall the opening of Vincent Gallo's Buffalo '66, which ironically exaggerates the hopelessness of post-incarceration by adding a lack of a public restroom to the list of things the former jailbird is without. But at the beginning of John Crowley's new film, Boy A, the titular young man being turned back into the world is high-browed and smiling from ear to ear. And this change from the expected norm really drew me into the film immediately. Perhaps the difference is that for most films about ex-cons, the hero doesn't have a very good chance at starting over. For "Boy A," however, there's a literal reinvention taking place. In the first scene, the young man (Andrew Garfield) sits with his caseworker, Terry (Peter Mullan), and discusses the details of his release, which include his receiving a new home, a new job and, most importantly, a new identity -- he chooses the name "Jack." Also, rather symbolically, Terry hands Jack a gift, a pair of sneakers that unintentionally represents the young man's ability to comfortably run away from his former life.Continue reading Review: Boy A Permalink | Email this | Comments

Entertainment News Brought to You By getthedaily.com - Your Online Source For News Today in entertainment: the fate of Heath Ledger's last project, plus how much scrilla is Heather Mills getting from her former Beatle and J.Lo's getting ready to pop! Hi everyone I'm andrea rene for get the daily.com, and I've got your entertainment update. In the wake of actor Heath Ledger's death, many rumors were floating around as to the fate of his last project that he was filming at the time of his death, "THe Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus." Some thought the movie would be scrapped, unable to be completed, but new word says that three actors have signed on the help complete the film. Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrel will all take on various roles in the film to help complete Heath's character, who enters several magical mirrors and now will exit a different person. Co-star Christopher Plummer said because of the magical nature of the movie, no one should notice anything out of the ordinary. Filming is slated to finish sometime this year with a 2009 theatrical release. Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney had his last day in court Monday, well hopefully his last day, as he and ex-wife Heather Mills finalized their divorce settlement to the tune of $106 million dollars. She is one lucky lady! She didn't even have to earn that the hard way! If approved by the judge in their case, Mills will receive a $40 million dollar lump sum up front plus an additional $5 million per year until their daughter Beatrice turns 18. Mills originally wanted $160 million, but come on, wouldn't you be happy with 106? I would! But it is possible that the judge will rule that Mills should get upwards of that amount in which case, their could be an appeal. A strict confidentality agreement is attached to the deal and hopefully, after this we'll never have to hear about heather mills again! Jennifer Lopez is getting ready to pop! Recent pictures show the latina pop star's enormous baby belly, home to her and husband Marc Anthony's first children, a pair of twins. Rumors are criculating online that J.Lo and hubbie have checked in to the North Shore University Hospital where she has been holding a private room. And after she does finally give birth, it won't be much of a race to see who gets the first published pics of the little tikes, because People magazine is getting ready to pay out $4-6 million dollars for exclusive photo rights plus an additional $2 million for OK magazine to get international rights as well. WOWZA think of how many fancy diapers that will buy! That is your entertainment update. For get the daily.com, I'm Andrea Rene and I"ll see you next time.
