There are DVDs you might want to rent on a rainy day, and then there are DVDs you absolutely must buy the day they arrive in stores. In what's truly been a fun week for marketing battles, Watchmen and Star Trek square off one more time this weekend, with each debuting a brand new trailer. Warner Bros. is first out of the gate with their Watchmen trailer arriving on Yahoo this evening. As for Star Trek, audiences will get to watch (and record illegally before uploading to YouTube, no doubt) the new Star Trek trailer in theaters before Quantum of Solace prior to its online debut this Monday. In the meantime, feast your eyes on the glorious Watchmen trailer below. What do you think of it compared to the other trailers? Is it better? Worse? I'm certainly diggin' what I've seen so far, but my only worry is whether Snyder will be able to accurately capture the wide scope and philosophical undertones of this beast. Nothing against Snyder at all, but there's a reason why folks have had a hard time adapting this behemoth of a graphic novel. Based on this trailer, though, things do look damn good. These come in advance of the brand new trailer, which is due to play before Quantum of Solace this weekend (it will arrive online a week from today at 7am EST, according to the official movie website). AICN has a description of the trailer, but I've always found trailer descriptions to be quite boring. Nevertheless, if it gets you off, head on over there. If I avoid the project, I can save myself some energy, but as soon as I start reading into it, or actually go and see it, I begin to get the research itch. Soon my browser has a million windows open as I research what's true, what's unknown, and what's complete Hollywood fabrication. If you're at all like that, you'll appreciate the comprehensive research into Changeling conducted by Larry Harnisch for the LA Times. This collection of posts has got everything -- we're talking maps that point out where Christine Collins lived over the years and background info like census responses and voter registration, photos from the twenties as well as current shots, an absolute ton of news clippings, and people involved in the incident who were not in the film. You can see what Christine Collins really looked like (which could fuel more "too attractive to be believable?" discussion, although I don't think there's a terrible difference), see the faux son, and the real Walter Collins (it's amazing that they would even try to pass one off as the other...). What's particularly nice about this is that it's not a written piece -- but rather all the different aged relics, so you can read the articles published during the drama and sift through the memories on your own. If you're the least bit interested in this strange story, check it out. What do you think? Last week several sites reported that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (aka Transformers 2) was still in production and shooting on some aircraft carrier, despite the fact that Michael Bay's blog told us production had previously wrapped. Then, a months-old fan made poster of Megan Fox as Wonder Woman surfaced, sending fanboys (and girls) on a wild goose chase to nowhere-ville (I prefer these fan made WW images, personally). Now, we have the biggest and baddest news of the week: Transformers ... has gone noir! Complete with a gorgeous dame and a coupla fellas who just spell trouble. While I totally wish this was a real poster for the next Transformers movie, I must admit it's Fan Made and created by a dude named Timothy Lim. How much do you want one, though?
