I actually made this video on the 4th of Feb this year but had decided not to post it because well I thought I could of done better (hands.. arms...I swear they hate me lol). It was my first time dancing to an actual bellydance drum solo, aside from Shakira's drum solo at the start of the OBjection Tango afro punk remix that I used in my One World performance. THere are some moments where the song did something different from what I thought it did lol, that is what I get for assuming eh;) Anyway after many requests for a drum solo I decided that I would just post this one, that way we can all (hopefully) see me get better with each drum solo I do. Next time I do one I will try to do it up close since that has also been requested a lot. The Poet: Ihsan Danish (pronounced IH-saan daa-nish, takhallus: Danish) was born in 1914. He spent his life in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. His poetry depicts the feelings and sufferings of ordinary people. He himself was a self-made man. In his earlier adult life he was an ordinary laborer. In his autobiography, Jihaan-i Danish, he has narrated his struggles. He states that he once used to work as a gardener at the Punjab University, Lahore. Later on he wrote numerous books and became a well-loved poet. He passed away in Lahore in 1982. In a time and age when the left-leaning elite of Urdu poets spoke for the hardworking classes, he, with his religious leanings was a rarity. Some of his other verses: Sad shukr ke aflaas ki yalghaar mein Danish, Faaqa koi tauheen-e hunar tak naheen pahuncha. Yoon na mil mujh se khafaa ho jaisey, saath chal maoj-e sabaa ho jaisey. Log Yoon deikh ke hans deitey hein, too mujhey bhool gayaa ho jaisey. Maot bhi aayi to iss naaz kei saath, mujh pe ihsan kiya ho jaisey. Aisey anjaan baney baithey ho, tum ko kuchch bhi na pataa ho jaisey! Hichkiyaan raat ko aati hi raheen, tu ne phir yaad kiyaa ho jaisey. Zindagi beet rahee hei Danish, Aik bey jurm sazaa ho jaisey. The Singer: Mehdi Hassan was born in Luna, Rajasthan, India in 1927. After partion of the Indian Sub-continent, he moved to Pakistan in 1947. He first sang on Radio Pakistan in 1952. He is called Shahinshah-i Ghazal (the King of Ghazal). He is presently (2008) incapacitated by a stroke. He has been awarded 3 of the highest civil awards (Hilal-i Imtiaz, Tamgha-i Imtiaz, and Pride of Performance) by the Government of Pakistan.
