Committing blasphemy under the Mosaic time was pretty obvious. As we examine Leviticus 24 we see a concrete case where blasphemy is committed, and Moses is to stone the offender. What does it mean to commit blasphemy under the covenant of grace as it is confirmed in Christ? Are there deeper implications now that we find ourselves secured in Christ? What does it mean to do everything in the name of Christ? If you are interested in hearing an answer to these questions please stay tuned as we hear, “What is Blasphemy?”

Moses holds out for to Israel the wisdom of God. He declares the wisdom of God is the law. However we can see in the New Testament that Christ is the wisdom of God. How can these two things to be reconciled? There is another tension that we perceive. If Israel did not properly worship God they were exiled, but Peter greets the church as the exiled people. There is the temptation to think that our current situation is inferior to that of the Old Testament. How do we know that our situation is superior? How can we speak of the things commanded by God at one time are now idolatrous? Does this mean that God changes? Why is the sacrifice really better, and what does it mean to live in light of it? Peter describes the day of the Lord in the third chapter of his second letter. He actually exhorts the church to live in light of the day of the Lord. This is such a day that we live in light of it actually waiting for it, desiring this day. Amos the prophet does not have such encouraging words for Israel.
