I've been getting a lot of negative feedback about the background music being too loud and all I can say is that, well, nobody's perfect . So because this is one of my most viewed videos I decided to take the liberty to make changes. Hopefully this is the final upload I'll have to make with this video, and if you like it please leave a comment. Once this video starts picking up a lot of views, I'll get rid of the other ones. Thanks for your support and advice! Enjoy! This is a musical montage I put together based on AFI's 100 Years 100 Movies Quotes. Bulldog Drummonds Peril 1938

Bulldog Drummonds Peril 1938

from Matinee Movies on November 01, 2009
Duration: 3956
The intended wedding of Captain Hugh "Bulldog" Drummond to Phyllis Clavering at her villa in Switzerland is stopped short (once again) when someone murders the Swiss policeman who is guarding their wedding presents. The killer makes off with their prize possession, a synthetic diamond, made by a secret process by Professor Bernard Goodman , the father of their good friend Gwen Longworth. A guest, Sir Raymond Blantyre, head of the Metropolitan Diamond Syndicate, disappears at the same time, and Drummond suspects that Sir Raymond, who has the most to lose if Professor Goodman proceeds with his plans to publish his secret process, has something to do with the theft. He leaves Phyllis and chases back to England. Colonel Nielsen, of Scotland Yard, as usual scoffs at Drummond's suspicions and insists that a man as respected as Sir Raymond could not possibly be involved in such a crime. But, as usual, he has Drummond followed just in the event he turns up something unexpected. An explosion that wrecks Goodman's house, and apparently kills him, makes Drummond more positive that the diamond king has again resorted to murder to protect his business. He follows Professor Botulian, a life-long rival of Goodman's, whom he believes to be involved in the affair. His hunt leads him to a lonely house on the outskirts of London where he finds Goodman a prisoner. Before they can escape, Drummond and Goodman are joined by Tenny (E. E. Clive), his valet, and Phyllis, who are also (as usual) being held by the crooks. Faced by Blantyne and his armed confederates, Drummond begins to fight his way out, but is met by superior forces

Baseball Historian 135 The Amazing Mets

from Baseball Historian Podcast on October 31, 2009

The dream continued for the Mets who swept the Atlanta Braves in three games to win the initial National League Championship Series and achieve the first pennant in Mets history. Nevertheless, it appeared to be the stroke of midnight for the Cinderella Mets when they faced the Baltimore Orioles in the 1969 World Series. Featuring three twenty game-winning pitchers (Mike Cuellar, Dave McNally, and Jim Palmer), the Orioles won the American League Eastern Division with 109 victories, finishing nineteen games ahead of the second place Detroit Tigers. The Orioles easily deposed of the Western Division champion Minnesota Twins in three games and seemed destined to dominate the Mets. Yet, in one of the greatest World Series upsets in history, the “Miracle Mets” defeated the Orioles in five games, setting off massive demonstrations of joy throughout New York City.

Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=CBC66FD1535D2E39&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL Based on Raymond Chandler's novel and directed by Howard Hawks, Humphrey Bogart plays the part of detective Philip Marlowe. Hired by the wealthy General Sternwood (Charles Waldron) to foil a blackmailer who's ensnared his youngest daughter — wild, childlike Carmen (Martha Vickers) — Marlowe soon finds himself both embroiled in murder and falling in love with the general's other daughter, the headstrong Vivian (Lauren Bacall). As the bodies pile up around them, the passion smolders between the rumpled shamus and the stylish thoroughbred. After playing mostly bad guys in the '30s, Bogart forged a career for himself in the 1940s as a romantic lead. Even in The Maltese Falcon, though, and Casablanca, his is an almost dour presence. There's none of that here. Bogart's Marlowe is a man relaxed with himself, not just cool, but humorous in the face of danger. One running gag has every woman he meets flirting with him and it's easy to see why — Marlowe may be hard-boiled, but, at his heart, there is a soft center. In his scenes with Bacall, the pair virtually ignites the screen, so palpable is the heat between them. Director/Producer: Howard Hawks Screenwriter: William Faulkner, Jules Furthman, Leigh Brackett Composer: Max Steiner Starring: Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Dorothy Malone, John Ridgely, Louis Jean Heydt, Elisha Cook, Regis Toomey, Sonia Darrin, Bob Steele, Martha Vickers, Tom Rafferty, Charles Waldron, Charles D. The Black Legion part 1

The Black Legion part 1

Black Legion Monday, Jun. 01, 1936 http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,756152,00.html In Detroit one evening last fortnight some 50 members of the Black Legion, wearing cheap black Let's beat him up! Let's stripe him! cried the Black Legionaries. Some, more bloodthirsty, screamed: Let's hang him! The Legion's Colonel Harvey Davis decided on hanging. Poole was lured to the meeting on the pretext that he was needed for a sandlot baseball team. The men piled into a string of automobiles with their victim, started out of town. At a spot near Dearborn, after a round of drinks, one Denton Dean discovered that there was no rope handy, abruptly shot five slugs into Charles Poole. Such was the lurid story disclosed by Detroit police to the Press last week. Their arrest of 16 Black Legionaries as suspects in the murder of Charles Poole, whose widow denied that he ever beat her, unearthed a sinister and hitherto little known U. S. nightshirt organization. Of late years Southern hillbillies, steeped in Ku Klux Klan tradition, have emigrated to Detroit in search of unskilled factory employment. To uphold Protestantism, Americanism and Womanhood and, as a sideline, to establish a mutual assistance group to find members jobs, a number of them founded the Black Legion in 1933. The organization burgeoned. No man could apply for membership, but if sponsored by friends, was enticed to a meeting. There, with a revolver at his heart, he was permitted to declare his willingness to be torn limb from limb and scattered to the carrion if he betrayed a word of society secrets. After swearing to support God and the Constitution, to give his all in any war against Catholics, Jews, Negroes, aliens and Communists, he paid $7 for a robe, 10¢ monthly dues, bought himself a gun, became a member in good standing. State police variously estimated the Legion's membership in Michigan at from 3,000 to 135,000. Last week in a Detroit court, the 16 sullen, empty-faced prisoners insisted they belonged to the Wolverine Republican Club. A political organization? inquired the court. Sixteen heads bobbed affirmatively. Unconvinced, the court arraigned twelve Wolverine Republican clubmates for the murder of WPA Worker Charles Poole. The Black Legion by FBI accounts was a white cult organization that operated in the mid-west during the 1930s supposedly to protect America from such things as Communism. Members wore black robes with skull and cross bones. Malcolm X who lived in Detroit as a child claimed that such a group was responsible for the death of this father. There is a currently a file maintained by the FBI on this group containing some 964 pages. The Black Legion of hoodlums, thugs, murderers, and some politicians seeking advancement, dress themselves in black robes, decorated with the pirate's symbol of the skull and crossbones, and feel that they are all powerful, recognizing no law save their own. Their ridiculous costumes, titles and rituals would be of no importance, except that this organization, formed to commit murder and lesser crimes, seeks to extend its rule by terror and mystery, and imposed its bloody will on well-selected tools who actually commit murder under orders. New York Daily Mirror, June 5, 1936 In Black Legion (the film directed 1936 by Archie Mayo), Humphrey Bogart gives an outstanding performance as factory laborer Frank Taylor, who loses a promotion to a foreign-born coworker. Filled with hatred, Taylor joins the Black Legion, a secret white supremacist organization. The group burns down the barn of Taylor's coworker, scaring him out of town. Thus, Taylor receives the promotion. But when Taylor is forced to spend his time recruiting new members for the Legion, he is demoted from plant foreman back to factory laborer. The Legion attacks Taylors new boss, making friends suspect Taylor's involvement, while Taylor himself begins drinking heavily in a fit of self-loathing. When Taylor finally loses his job and the Legion gears up for an attack on a former friend, it appears that Taylor has hit rock bottom--with only himself to blame. This fast-paced, black and white tale of moral decay and redemption is based on the true story of the Black Legion's condemnable actions in Michigan in the 1930s.
