Kyte has substantially transformed from being a video camera phone sharing site, to a full-blown online video delivery tool for big brands. It is much more akin these days to YouTube or BrightCove than Flixwagon or Qik.Uploads from mobile phones are a small part of the content on the Kyte platform. It's really more about big brands that want customized delivery including a customized video player, branded channels on social networks and other valuable utilities. The Huffington Post is using Kyte to stream the NetRoots conference. 50 Cent uses the Kyte platform to stream an astounding number of clips daily: Nearly 200,000 video views per day on some 30,000 web sites, according Danial Graf of Kyte. Some 22 million videos have been viewed since the channel started in November. Daniel told me that monetization for his company's services will come through ad ad model, unlike BrightCove or the Platform which are paid sofware solutions. Discuss: Heath Ledger and James DeanDiscuss: Heath Ledger and James Dean
from Cinematical
July 15, 2008

Filed under: Action, Casting, New Releases, RumorMonger, Celebrities and Controversy, Newsstand, Obits, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Stars in Rewind In the last twenty-four hours alone, countless news articles have compared the late Heath Ledger to James Dean. Of course it helps that the two actors -- whose careers lie fifty years apart -- bear physical resemblances to each other. The real reason for the frequency of the comparison, however, revolves around the possibility that Ledger, like Dean, might end up with a posthumous Oscar nomination. Other than Dean, whose death in a 1955 car accident was preceded by two nominations back-to-back, six actors have landed the distinction -- but only one, Peter Finch, actually won (for Network in 1976). However, Ledger is now perceived an actor who possessed a potential he never quite realized, while Dean was already an icon by the time of his death (and he still didn't win the prize). If Ledger gets nominated for his performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight, the award will also acknowledge the great career that never was. Dean surely would have followed Giant with other wonderful performances, but his brief filmography also allowed the actor to reach a level of prestige that Ledger would have needed a few more movies to attain. So does this comparison really hold up? The media certainly seems to think so. "Like Dean, he could endure as a mythic figure of talent silenced before his time," writes the AP. "People are aflutter over seeing the final performance of a new James Dean," reports The Huffington Post. " One quality that Ledger and Dean did share is rapid growth," notes the Baltimore Sun.Continue reading Discuss: Heath Ledger and James Dean Permalink | Email this | Comments
War Isn't News Anymore?War Isn't News Anymore?
from Global Pulse
June 26, 2008

(Global Pulse: June 26, 2008) While the Iraq and Afghanistan wars rage on, consistent coverage of these conflicts is disappearing from network news. Lara Logan, chief foreign correspondent for CBS News, vented her frustrations to Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show," setting off a storm of commentary. While the foreign media continues to cover events unfolding in Iraq and Afghanistan, we compare what makes it into the U.S.'s nightly newscasts. On Friday May 9th 2008, I was given access to cover the rally for Democratic Presidential front runner Senator Barack Obama held here in Eugene, Oregon at the University of Oregon.I was able to work as a solo video journalist and obtained press credentials through the citizen journalist organization The Uptake and the video was picked up by the most widely read progressive political website - The Huffington Post. The end result isn't perfect by any means, but it does show that working in the pared down solo video journalist paradigm allows for greater mobility to cover a news event like this more effectively as compared to the mainstream news media.

Don Siegelman storyDon Siegelman story
from Where's the Outrage?
February 24, 2008

I have heard just whiffs of this story. Tom Hartman had talked about the story a couple of months ago. I had seen a little something the Huffington Post. Tonight, 60 minutes took up this case. They really didn t deal with the election but instead they focused on the prosecution of Don Siegelman. But Siegelman s story really starts before he gets jailed. It starts with Siegelman s re-election. Julie Sigwart of Take Back the Media gets an exclusive interview with Siegelman before all hell breaks loose. Currently, Siegelman is not allowed to talk speak with the press which is why 60 minutes couldn t interview him. This is the order of the court. Update:  Read more about Siegelman s case on No Comment.  It has also been reported that parts of tonight s 60 minutes broadcast were blacked out in Alabama.  (BTW, I m just wondering if Cindy McCain is still very proud of living in America now?  I m just askin because there are times when this country depresses me, like now.) 60 minutes, don siegelman, elections, julie sigwart, Legal, tom hartman

NBC News anchor Brian Williams "loves his nickname," says Rachel Sklar over at HuffPo. The perenially upbeat media blogger dubbed him 'BriWi' at some point, we couldn't even begin to tell you why. Makes him sound like some newfangled networking device from Apple. Oooh, maybe he is! Thing is, when she mentions it to him in a video interview, he looks like he just wants to bolt. Or smack her, whatever ends the whole thing fastest.

Axelrod Responds To Obama Victory: “Expects Attacks”Axelrod Responds To Obama Victory: “Expects Attacks”
from DoubleSpeak with Matthew and Peter Slutsky
January 04, 2008

In an interview with DoubleSpeak, Barack Obama s Chief Strategist David Axelrod responded to Obama s Iowa caucus victory. During this interview at the Senator s first campaign event in the state of New Hampshire, Axelrod said that attacks on Obama are to be expected from his rivals over the next few days. Download audio file (doublespeak_20080104_1.mp3) Rough transcript after the jump. Rough Transcript: DAVID AXELROD Wow, I mean it was a magical night. It was a wonderful night. We ve been, you know, we ve been working at this for 10 months, and we had this vision when we started that we could attract young people in ways that they hadn t been attracted before. Independents, some disillusioned republicans, and built on our democratic base. and do something special, and, you know, its great to have a theory. You can build the plane, but last night, we found out whether it could fly or not, and it flew beautifully, you know. and I think its going to continue to fly. DOUBLESPEAK Do you credit young voters with your victory last night? DAVID AXELROD Well I think they were a huge part of it, just to put it in perspective, in 2004 only 12% of the voters who participated in the caucauses were under the age of 45. Last night, it was 40% and of that 40% 22% were under the age of 29. And so, 22% of the voters we re under the age of 29, and 22% were over the age of 65. Usually the over 65 dominate. So it was a profound change in the composition of the electorate. So, yes I give young people credit, and you know, look, this is not just a prescription for winning the nomination, this is what we as a party have to do, we have to reenergize young people in this country, and give them a sense that there is meaning in politics, that you can actually acheive postive things for yourself and the country by being involved. That s been beaten out of young people for so long, and I think he is reigniting a sense of possibility, and thats very very important. DOUBLESPEAK Whats your messaage to New Hampshire youth? inevitably this thing could get ugly, there could be attacks leveled at obama in the next week. DAVID AXELROD There very well may, I would expect that, but you know, I think in a sense, those are exactly the kind of tactics that are part of the old politics that we ve come to know and hate in this country. I think we have to stop ripping each other down, and lifting up the country, and thats what this candidacy is about.

from Where's the Outrage?
December 30, 2007

If you have had a chance to see Meet the Press - meet the candidates - then you know that Tim Russert will try to set up some candidates by using their own words. He made Ron Paul look somewhat unprepared last week. So, Tim tried to set up Barack Obama using President Bill Clinton s words. Obama proved that he reads, that he is well prepared as he answers a series of questions by using Bill Clinton s own words and by quoting Martin Luther King. Obama does a great job at answering the questions and hitting a few of them out of the park. Now, for my sisters and brothers of the progressive bloggosphere, some of you have hitched a ride on the Hillary Clinton express. That s fine. Taylor Marsh seems to be leading the charge for the Hillary camp. She has bashed Barack Obama at every turn. The man can t put on his pants or brush his teeth without Taylor criticizing everything from his ego to his DNA. I would link to a particular post but everything that she has posted in the 10 days has been bashing Barack. Former Ambassador Joe Wilson has joined the act posting an article on the Huffington Post that stated Barack didn t know Jack about foreign policy. Interestingly, he didn t say that Madeline Albright or Colin Powell, former Secretaries of State, should run for president.  Basically, Wilson said Hillary was great and Obama is a moron. In my opinion there really isn t much different between John Edwards, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. The question that I have is who will change the direction of the country. Who will work with Congress to get a progressive agenda? I have given money to each of these candidates because I think each of these candidates will help turn American around. My worry is the that Hillary will bring out the worst in the Republicans, again. (Like they will not attack Edwards or Obama with the same ferocity) My other worry is that Hillary and her camp will not spend enough time working with Howard Dean on rebuilding the democratic party. So, Taylor Marsh and the others, support Democrats. barack obama, hillary clinton, huffington post, joe wilson, john edwards, martin luther king, meet the press, president bill clinton, progressive agenda, ron paul, Sunday Morning Shows, taylor marsh, tim russert
