We're one of the few fire companies in the U.S. to still use "Charged Lines." The reel being rewound here is standard, 1.5" structural fire hose -- same you would find in any crosslay in the nation -- but kept charged on a what is essentially an oversized booster reel. We keep 50psi on the lines when repacking. Bottom reel is 1.5" with a 95gpm Rockwood nozzle, the line above it is 1.75" with a 185gpm TFT nozzle.We started using Charged Lines in the 1960s, perhaps 1950s. Originally it was stowed in a basket on top of the truck -- just looped in. Since 1973 we've used them on reels.
