Mayfield travels to Nordonia on Friday for an NOC divisional game. Mayfield 78, Parma 63 From staff reports, January 07, 2009 6:38 a.m. THE PLAIN DEALER A 28-point fourth quarter, including 13 free throws by Kyle Koski, propelled the Wildcats to an upset of No. 23 Parma. Senior forward Andrew Revello had 27 points and 10 rebounds for host Mayfield (3-5). Revello scored 12 points as the Wildcats jumped to a 20-12 lead in the first quarter and he scored nine in the fourth quarter, which began with Mayfield leading, 50-47. High school boys basketball notes: 'Cats coming on strong Published: Friday, February 6, 2009 By Bill Tilton The Mayfield basketball team is experiencing something this season that in recent years only players that were on the football or baseball team could relate to. Winning big games and winning often. The Wildcats are 8-7 and have won seven of their last nine games. While 8-7 might not seem like a flashy record, consider that mark includes wins over Strongsville, Parma and South, and the eight wins match the victory total at the school for the last three years combined. I think the win over Strongsville was the biggest win for the program in the last nine years, Mayfield coach Keith Leffler said. It was a great crowd and it was very intense in the fourth quarter. The kids hadn't experienced that around here unless they played football or baseball. They haven't had that experience in basketball, so I think it is important for them to appreciate the moment. The Wildcats were coming off a 4-17 campaign in Leffler's first season as head coach, and have doubled that total and are in contention for a league title this season. In addition, Mayfield could be an overlooked team at the upcoming tournament draw for the Division I Euclid district. Seniors John Angelo, Andrew Revello and Kyle Wrentmore have been solid for the Wildcats, while Kyle Koski continues to get more and more comfortable at point guard and Bryan Kuhlman and Danny Coleman are also making key contributions. With Glenville, Mentor, Brush and Madison almost sure to take the top four spots in some order at the Euclid district, Mayfield could contend for one of the next few seeds. It will be interesting to see how the seeding works out, Leffler said. I think the teams like Brush and Glenville and Madison and Mentor everyone knows about. After that, depending on what the draw is like, we'll just have to see what happens. I think this team is capable of playing well there if we keep doing the things we have been doing. JANUARY 31, 2009 Mayfield 78, Strongsville 74 The host Wildcats had four players finish in double figures when they finished off 16th-ranked Strongsville in a NOC crossover game. Kyle Wrentmore paced the attack with 17 points, three rebounds and three steals, followed by Andrew Revellos 16 points, nine rebounds and two steals, John Angelos 15 points, five assists, two assists and two rebounds and Kyle Koskis 12 points, three assists and two steals.
