Obama Says He's Committed to Israel's Security

SelectPlusObama Says He's Committed to Israel's SecurityObama Says He's Committed to Israel's SecurityThe Associated PressBarack Obama says he is committed to the security of Israel. Obama visited Israel and the West Bank in the latest stops on his overseas trip. (July 23)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] Barack Obama is defending his proposal to negotiate with Iran. SOTBarack Obama"My whole goal in terms of having tough, serious direct diplomacy is not because I'm naive about the nature of any of these regimes. I'm not"Obama says he would use a series of big sticks and big carrots to persuade Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions.The Democratic presidential candidate made the statements in Sderot, an Israeli city that has been the frequent target of rocket attacks from Palestinian militants.Obama assured both Israel and the Palestinians that he would address the Mideast conflict early in his presidency.SOTBarack Obama I think there's a population on both sides that's frustrated with the process. And where there's hopelessness and despair, that can often turn in a bad direction"Obama came to Israel facing many challenges. Palestinians are skeptical that any U-S leader will reverse Washington's perceived bias toward Israel. Israelis are concerned he would push Israel too hard in negotiations with the Palestinians.SOTMarina Ottaway/Carnegie Endowment"I think at this point the Israelis have received answers that show support on the part of Sen Obama for their positions and demands, and the Palestinians have not. The paradox is that the Israeli's still do not completely trust Sen Obama" Obama has consistently said the U-S will remain a friend and ally of Israel. But some Jewish Americans say they're skeptical.SOTHarvey Woll/Voter "i'm just wondering is it's something he's saying to try to get elected and try to get the Jewish vote behind him, or if it's something he's really sincere about"SOTJoseph RawasIf he goes through and sticks to his points, I will be an obama supporter. But he's got to stick to his ways, not just going into be president and leaving Israel alone like all the presidents before"Obama's overseas trip takes him to Germany on Thursday. ___ ___, The Associated Press. from Top Favorites July 17, 2008
Obama tells you that you have no right to mention any of his faults. You can't criticise his wife, even when she campaigns, and you can't mention that he changes his mind on every issue. He wants you to believe that any criticism of him his due only to the fact that he's got a funny name and did I mention he's black? .

ROCKOLLECTIONS: FOR THE 4TH OF JULY- JAY & THE AMERICANS PT.2 END
from WLSO.FM July 03, 2008
I will open this chapter with Only In America, having already told you the story behind it. Last year I think it was, I did a 4-part Podcast theme series called A Celebration Of America- and it is here at WLSO.FM. At the end of Part 4, I played that same song but by the Drifters, only because I wanted to play a different interpretation. Not knowing at the time that THEY had done the first and original version! So if you want to hear that piece of history, as I say, it is here. You just have to go back and look for it. After that great song for this holiday, Jay Black at his operatic best with a song by Rodgers s first success as a songwriter? They did a song he wrote called Sunday And Me, and I ve got and will play it, you ll hear if you listen, lol. The band s last hit reached # 19 in 1970, and was an old Ronettes tune. After that, I have a strange one, a curiosity they released in late 1966- an odd, very 60 s sound not at all like what we were used to hearing from them. Even the title is kinda weird, He s Raining In My Sunshine. Far out, man! Turns out Jay Black had a big gambling problem with some big debts, and he sold the group name to pay them off. Of note is that over the years the group included Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, who left to form Steely Dan. Then, I have a couple of treats. One member of the Americans, Kenny Vance, started a group with the Planetones that in 1975 came out of nowhere with their doowop retro style, for an unlikely hit in the midst of what was by then a no longer experimental but a formulaic music scene. Their throwback sound broke the formula, and I just remember it seeming so out of place. But I liked it then and I like it now. As a born and bred New Yorker, I knew about singing in the subways and the bathrooms and Looking For That Echo! I will end this Independence Day show with a song I have played quite a few times before on the radio. I will never understand why this beautiful, wonderful song, done years ago by Eric Andersen, never became a perennial hit. Happy 4th Of July everyone, everywhere! And Happy Birthday America! Mike

Mugen vs. Kagetoki
from YouTube :: Tag // anime June 26, 2008
I wanted to try something new, so I made an AMV with multiple short songs. This is part 1 of 2, the second will be Jin/Kagetoki. The anime clips are from Samurai Champloo The songs are: Eon Blue Apocalypse - Tool He's a Pirate - Klaus Bedelt Untitled - Burial I used iMovie to make it. My main restrictions were a lack of real computer power and songs, which I think were the weak point. I'd like to say this was an experiment of my computer's capabilities, and that I was 'bored', but those would both only be partially correct. I hope you enjoyed watching. Any comments appreciated! I do not own Samurai Champloo or any of the songs. This video was made by Jaredwcooper. Tim Russert, 1950-2008 [Obit]
from Gawker June 13, 2008
In what may or may not be an irony of some kind, but should probably not actually be noted, because it's sort of ghoulish and in poor taste, political journalism superstar Tim Russert went out today with a Friday newsdump, that hallowed Washington DC practice of burying news no one wants to see. Earlier today, June 13, 2008, Russert suffered a fatal heart attack. While working, obviously. Because he worked a lot, and he always looked like he loved it. So. We all know the basics of the story. Big fun guy from Buffalo, worked in the New York Democratic party machine for Mario Cuomo and Daniel Patrick Moynihan. Made the switch to journalism, got hired by NBC in Washington, and ended up the bureau chief four short years later, in 1988. In 1991, he took over Meet the Press and quickly became one of the most important names in DC journalism. His journalistic style was a civil, well-read version of the GOTCHA that would take control of cable. “Lawrence Spivak, who founded ‘Meet the Press,’ told me before he died that the job of the host is to learn as much as you can about your guest’s positions and take the other side,” he said in a 2007 interview with Time magazine. “And to do that in a persistent and civil way. And that’s what I try to do every Sunday.” This could be an irritating style. Russert's specialty was pointing out a contradiction in a politician's vast record of spoken positions. Oftentimes this meant a descent into entirely useless minutiae. Though almost as often it was enlightening, or at least entertaining. It's certainly preferable to the Chris Matthews method of shouting whatever comes to mind, no matter how crazy. And Russert always knew his shit, even when you were fairly certain he was missing the point. From Meet the Press he dictated the conventional wisdom of Washington's political establishment—a harder trick to pull off in the days before Drudge, The Note, the internet, Politico, and the rise of what is essentially meta-journalism disguised as political analysis. Russert just selected some insiders—usually white, usually male, every week well into the 2000s (such is DC!)—and allowed them to spin their little hearts out. It's still engaging television, even when it makes you want to level Washington and maybe give Philly a second chance as Capital. But it was as the country's wonky guide to electoral politics that he perhaps undid some of the damage of the institution of the Sunday chatfest. Because Russert and his whiteboard did an admirable, commendable job, every four years, of explaining our insane and anti-democratic political process to a nation that has always been unclear on the subject. The electoral college, slightly demystified, for one night. Civics lessons are rare on television, and effective ones should be applauded. And yes, it's actually shocking, and sad, to think that this November all we'll have is John King and his Blade Russert touch screen wall, or Keith Olbermann and his pseudo-gravitas, or poor bored Katie Couric to guide us through that stressful Tuesday night nationwide farce. Russert died at work, as we said, at NBC's Washington studios. He is survived by his wife, Maureen Orth, his son Luke, and, tragically, his father, the hero of Tim's happily non-self-aggrandizing 2004 memoir, Big Russ and Me. Contra video game review! RESPONSE!1!!
from Most Discussed June 08, 2008
I didn't even bother to edit the start of it, but it should be VERY clear this is a complete mockery of a certain dumb fuck named Sizzler07 who can't play the game, and claims Contra sucked based on that. This is also an accurate portrayal of ANYONE who claims Contra sucks, or that the first level is hard. It isn't- you just suck at gaming. On a positive note however, I fixed the video issue with the random choppiness occurring- YAY!

Trailer Park: Venus and Mars
from Cinematical June 07, 2008
Filed under: Comedy, Drama, Romance, Trailer Trash, Brad Pitt, Remakes and Sequels, Trailers and Clips No, I'm not talking about Paul McCartney and Wings' "Venus and Mars" (though that is a pretty awesome tune). I suppose you would be hard pressed to find a movie with no romantic angle at all, but these five trailers focus specifically on male/female relationships. Nights in Rodanthe No, this doesn't have anything to do with that radioactive pterodactyl occasionally seen hanging out with Godzilla (that's Rodan to the uninitiated). Actually this one (which Erik first posted about here) stars Richard Gere as a doctor on his way to reconcile with his son. His trip takes an unexpected turn when he begins a love affair with an innkeeper whose loveless marriage is on the skids. Christopher Meloni plays the estranged husband, which doesn't seem all that different from his role on Law and Order: Special Victim's Unit. It looks like a competent production, but it just wreaks of Bridges of Madison County. There may be something worthwhile here, but it's not my cup of tea. He's Just Not That Into You If nothing else, the cast of this adaptation of the novel by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo will make you sit up and take notice. Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, and Justin Long star with Barrymore also producing. The film follows several interconnecting stories, with the trailer showing us several romantic missteps that could easily come from any romantic comedy, but the cast is so top-notch that I find myself wanting to see more. This one hits theaters on October 24. Here's Elisabeth's take on the trailer. Continue reading Trailer Park: Venus and MarsPermalink | Email this | Comments

Bonds Says He's Innocent

SportsBonds Says He's InnocentBonds Says He's InnocentThe Associated PressBaseball's home run king is says he is not guilty. Barry Bonds entered the plea at an arraignment in San Francisco today. He's facing 15 felony counts of lying to a grand jury about performance-enhancing drugs. (June 6)Barry Bonds has pleaded not guilty to charges he lied before a grand jury about using performance enhancing drugs and is set to go to trial in March of next year.SOT Allen Ruby Bonds' attorneyThe right conclusion to this case is an acquittal for Barry. He's innocent, but if the government chooses to dismiss all of the charges before then, that's their decision and you ought to talk to them about that. But the right way for this case to end is an unequivocal and complete vindication of Barry Bonds.The former San Francisco Giants slugger was in federal court Friday for an arraignment.The all-time home run king didn't speak to reporters as he came and left and didn't speak during his brief court appearance, either.Bonds is facing 15 felony counts of lying under oath.These charges stem from a grand jury appearance he made back in 2003 in which he said he never knowingly took steroids or other performance enhancing drugs.Bonds broke Hank Aaron's home run record last season, and, despite saying he still wants to play, remains unsigned this year. ___ ___, The Associated Press. Killing me softly with hes song Hielo Negro
from YouTube :: Tag // virginia May 27, 2008
Otra con la inigualable Virginia: Letra en inglés: I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style And so I came to see him, to listen for a while And there he was, this young boy, a stranger to my eyes Strumming my pain with his fingers, Singing my life with his words, Killing me softly with his song, Killing me softly with his song, Telling my whole life with his words, Killing me softly with his song I felt all flushed with fever, embarrassed by the crowd, I felt he found my letters and read each one out loud I prayed that he would finish but he just kept right on Strumming my pain with his fingers, Singing my life with his words, Killing me softly with his song, Killing me softly with his song, Telling my whole life with his words, Killing me softly with his song Strumming my pain with his fingers, Singing my life with his words, Killing me softly with his song, Killing me softly with his song, Telling my whole life with his words, Killing me softly with his song. Y continuó cantando cantando claro y fuerte. Sydney Pollack Dead At 73 [And Now He's Dead]
from Gawker May 26, 2008
Oscar-winning director Sydney Pollack, whose credits included Out Of Africa, The Way We Were and Tootsie, died at home in Los Angeles of cancer. He was 73. His death came within three months of the cancer death of his business partner and fellow filmmaker Anthony Minghella, with whom he ran production company Mirage Enterprises. Able to draw talent with his passion for film and nuanced directing, Pollack was known for featuring top Hollywood stars in virtually all his films. At Dustin Hoffman's insistence, he took a role as the agent in Tootsie, and continued an acting sideline that culminated with a standout performance in Michael Clayton, featured after the jump along with an outtake from his journalism corrective Absence of Malice.
