RetroVision Media: Wall Street Terrorist And Their Congressional Coconspirators
from RetroVision Media October 07, 2008
With unmitigated gall, perfectly tempered a by an Oscar winning performance displaying deep pain for his company’s failure, Lehman Bros. CEO Richard Fuld successfully defended his $484 million earnings in salary, bonuses and stock sales since 2000,while the financial giant was being run into the ground. The show hearing on Capital Hill provided great theater as congressional inquisitors played to their constituents back home by making sure they were seen sticking it to the rich guys. But since most Americans should be aware by now, absolutely nothing is going to happen to the robber barons of Wall Street, it won’t be long before things cool off and it is business as usual all over again. We watched Henry Waxman ask tough questions like; how could Lehman Bros. approve $23.2 million for three outgoing executives’ just days before the company filed for bankruptcy? We saw Mr. Fuld take “full responsibility” for everything that occurred that led to the country’s largest bankruptcy ever b

Chairman Waxman threatens to hold Mukasey in contempt over withholding Cheney’s FBI interview about Valerie Plame
from Crooks and Liars July 18, 2008
I didn t have a chance to get to this the other day. Mukasey is headed for trouble as outlined by Chairman Waxman in this video. He warns the Attorney General of a Scheduled Contempt Vote over Cheney: Download | Play Download | Play (rough transcript) Waxman; I have tried to investigate what really happened and the White House has resisted oversight every step of the way. The committee s inquired has tried to penetrate the cloud surrounding VP Cheney s conduct. But today the President has asserted executive privilege and is withholding from the committee and the American people key evidence about the VP Cheney s actions. During our investigation we have learned that Mr. Libby told the FBI that it was possible that the Vice President instructed him to leak Miss Wilson s identity. That would be an extraordinary breach of trust. There is a key document that could explain what the VP knew and what he did. The report of the VP s interview with officials working from the FBI working for Mr. Fitzgerald. If there is one document that could pierce the cloud hanging over the VP, that is it. Mr Mukasey decided that a different rule should apply to Republican Presidents than to Democratic Presidents. The claim of executive privilege is ludicrous. The President s actions have darkened the cloud over the VP and left important questions unanswered. As the committee considers its next steps, I hope the President and Vice President will also consider theirs. Congress and the American public are entitled to know what role the President and Vice President in the despicable outing of Miss. Wilson AG Janet Reno provided this committee the FBI interviews of both President Clinton and VP Gore a decade ago so what s the deal? Waxman is trying to find out what Cheney said to the FBI and is not too happy that Mukasey is blocking access to it. It sure looked like Scooter Libby was getting ready to hang Cheney out to dry unless Bush stepped in and gave him a get of jail card for free. Murray Waas wrote this great article about it a while ago: Cheney Authorized Leak Of CIA Report, Libby Says Vice President Dick Cheney directed his then-chief of staff, I. Lewis Scooter Libby, on July 12, 2003 to leak to the media portions of a then-highly classified CIA report that Cheney hoped would undermine the credibility of former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, a critic of the Bush administration s Iraq policy, according to Libby s grand jury testimony in the CIA leak case and sources who have read the classified report read on The Gavel: Chairman Waxman writes Attorney General Mukasey that the Oversight Committee will vote to hold him in contempt unless the Attorney General produces a copy of the report of the FBI interview of Vice President Cheney in the investigation of the leak of the identity of Valerie Plame Wilson, a covert CIA agent. Here s the pdf of the letter he wrote Mukasey. Mr. Fitzgerald removed any doubt about this important point last week. He wrote the Committee that there were no agreements, conditions, and understandings between the Office of Special Counsel or the Federal Bureau of Investigation and either the President or Vice President regarding the conduct and use of the interview or interviews. This should get real interesting soon.

Iraq: Where Has All the Money Gone?
from Weekday Podcast June 18, 2008
The U.S. has spent more than $500 billion in Iraq since 2003. How much of that money has gone missing to fraud, corruption and waste? The Department of Defense says billions were handed out in cash, and some multi million dollar payments didn't even come with a receipt. Who are the financial watchdogs and what have they found? Have financial practices improved since the beginning of the war? We check in with the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction and Representative Henry Waxman, chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. A conversation on the week's news in Canada from our Canadian correspondent, Vaughn Palmer, political correspondent for the Vancouver Sun.

Cookie Krongard - “I know nothing”
from Where's the Outrage? November 20, 2007
Re-posted This would be funny if it weren t true. This is yet another Bush Administration scandal. This is the story of Cookie and Buzzy - brothers. Cookie Krongard is the Inspector General at the State Department. Buzzy is the brother who sits on an advisory board of Blackwater. It just so happens that the Inspector General s office is investigating Blackwater. Cookie was in front of a House committee and didn t even know, so he said, that his brother was being paid by the very same guys who he is investigating. Yep, I don t believe him either. Look for Henry Waxman to throw a contempt citation on Cookie. Update: Buzzy Krongard has resigned. Update II: Buzzy Krongand was the #3 official at the CIA during 9/11. He was instrumental in helping Blackwater get its first contract witht he CIA in the 2002 according to the book, Blackwater. It turns out that Buzzy and Erik Prince the CEO of Blackwater are good buddies. Jeremy Scahill, author of Blackwater, wrote a nice article in The Nation about this recent House committee hearing - Now this story has taken yet another dramatic twist. On Wednesday the State Department Inspector General, Howard Cookie Krongard, was in the hot seat on Capitol Hill, where he found himself being grilled by Representative Henry Waxman s Oversight and Government Affairs Committee. Krongard is the top State Department official charged with investigating allegations of waste, fraud and abuse. In addition to all of the questionable actions by the State Department in the Blackwater investigation, Krongard has faced charges that he impeded a Justice Department investigation into Blackwater over allegations the company was illegally smuggling weapons into Iraq. But the bombshell at the hearing was the revelation that Krongard s brother, Alvin Buzzy Krongard, recently accepted a position as a paid consultant for Blackwater, where he serves on the company s advisory board. Until his resignation in 2004, Buzzy was the number-three man at the Central Intelligence Agency (more on that later). Waxman s committee broke the news of Buzzy s Blackwater position as part of what can only be described as a masterful ambush of the Inspector General. (more ) From TPM: We re that much closer to a perjury investigation. Buzzy Krongard has told House oversight committee staff what he told TPMmuckraker on Wednesday: that he told his brother, State Department Inspector General Howard Cookie Krongard, about his decision to join the advisory board of State Department contractor Blackwater. Cookie Krongard told the committee on Wednesday his brother had told him no such thing. Waxman says he ll hold a hearing the week of December 3 to determine if Krongard lied to the committee under oath. Both Krongard brothers will be invited to testify. And you thought your last family reunion was awkward. But will Howard Krongard resign before then?
