Due to the current economic situation, many people in Nassau County on Long Island have limited access to food. And so many of them, like Wade Wright, from Hempstead, who was interviewed, go to organizations such as Longs Island Food Not Bombs(LIFNB)

The Hempstead Tigers completed the 2009 season with an 0-8 record behind first year head coach Theron Grinage. It was only the third time in school history that the team did not win a single game. Despite their record, both the players and coaching staff believe they made progress towards returning the program to it's winning tradition.

The Hempstead Public Schools are preparing for a cut in state aid for the 2010-2011 school year. As a district that depends heavily on state aid, Hempstead will be greatly affected by any impending cuts.
