Sondheim's Follies: In Concert - 20 Video Montage
from YouTube :: Videos by bestarts September 25, 2008
"Follies" is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Goldman. The play was nominated for eleven Tonys and won seven. Links to the complete version of each of these videos (in order) are provided at http://www.theBestArts.com/Follies/ On the website, we include some of the "behind the scenes" material from the DVD with each song. See also: Fosse montage: http://www.theBestArts.com/Fosse/ Pippin montage: http://www.theBestArts.com/Pippin/ Putting It Together: http://www.theBestArts.com/PuttingItTogether/ BestArts montage: http://www.theBestArts.com/BestArtsMashup/ The Broadway production opened on April 4, 1971, directed by Harold Prince and Michael Bennett, and with choreography by Bennett. For commercial reasons, the cast album was cut from two LPs to one early in production. Most songs were therefore heavily abridged and several were left entirely unrecorded. A concert at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center (NYC) was produced September 6 and 7, 1985; it starred Barbara Cook (Sally), George Hearn (Benjamin), Mandy Patinkin (Buddy), and Lee Remick (Phyllis), and featured Carol Burnett (Carlotta), Betty Comden, Adolph Green, Liliane Montevecchi, Elaine Stritch, Phyllis Newman and Licia Albanese. Among the reasons the concert was staged was to provide an opportunity to record the entire score. The resulting album was much more complete than the original cast album. A highly recommended (region 1 only) DVD of the concert has been released titled "Follies: In Concert." These videos are excerpts from that DVD. 0:00 Stephen Sondheim Introduction 0:43 Beautiful Girls 2:00 Rain on the Roof 2:08 Ah, Paris! 2:25 Broadway Baby 2:49 In Buddy's Eyes 3:18 Who's That Woman? 3:50 I'm Still Here 4:24 Too Many Mornings 4:51 One More Kiss 5:11 Could I Leave You? 5:38 You're Gonna Love Tomorrow/Love Will See Us Through 5:59 Buddy's Blues 6:10 Losing My Mind 6:45 The Story of Lucy and Jessie 7:15 Live, Laugh, Love 7:32 Finale: Waiting for the Girls Upstairs 7:56 Beautiful Girls (reprise) 8:20 Elaine Stritch cuts up 9:09 Beautiful Girls (finale) See our website at http://www.theBestArts.com/ for more great dance, music and musical theatre performances. Sondheim Revue - 29 Video Montage
from YouTube :: Videos by bestarts September 25, 2008
Many BestArts viewers have watched several videos from Stephen Sondheim's revue, "Putting It Together." This post will introduce you to a few of the numbers you may have missed. Links to the complete version of each of these videos (in order) are provided at http://www.theBestArts.com/PuttingItTogether/ See also: Fosse montage: http://www.theBestArts.com/Fosse/ Pippin montage: http://www.theBestArts.com/Pippin/ BestArts montage: http://www.theBestArts.com/BestArtsMashup/ These are among our most popular videos. They have an average rating of 4.93/5 - and an average "Favorite" count of 172. Twenty-five of these videos have been "Favorited" more than 50 times - our viewers agree they're worth watching. "Putting it Together" is a musical revue showcasing the songs of Stephen Sondheim. All of the songs are extracted from their original context and worked into a new semi-storyline that revolves around an older couple facing their disillusions and marital troubles, a younger, less jaundiced couple, and a commentator. "Putting It Together" was first performed in England in 1992 and then moved to Broadway in 1993 for a run that starred Julie Andrews. The cast recording audio CD is from the 1993 production. In 1999, the show returned to Broadway, starring George Hearn, Carol Burnett, John Barrowman, Ruthie Henshall and Bronson Pinchot. George Hearn received a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for his role. These excerpts are taken from a taping of a live performance of the 1999 production, available on a highly recommended DVD. The DVD is region 1 only, so can be viewed on DVD players sold in the US/Canada or PC DVD players worldwide. No audio CD was produced using this cast. UK viewers: if you're willing to watch the DVD on your PC, it is available for purchase at amazon.co.uk (and probably other sites) and you'll avoid international shipping charges. (Please let us know if that changes.) The Boy Who Drew Cats
from Miette's Bedtime Story Podcast April 09, 2006
I packaged up, compressed, and uploaded today s episode before discovering that I had inadvertently mentioned the brand name of a popular consumer product in the few introductory seconds before the story starts, so I thought it might be wise for me to insert a little disclaimer, for the sake of my legal hide. Here goes: Please let it be known that what you have heard (or will be hearing) is not the consequence of product placement after all, I don t think a company would pay me to say that its product was made from pigs lips, or whatever I said. And along those lines, please let it be known that the product is not really made from pigs lips (or at least, I don t think it is). It was a figure of speech, not meant to be taken seriously as indicator of the product s ingredients, and not even my guess as to the product s ingredients. In fact, please note that I have no opinion of that product whatsoever, and would never encourage, nor discourage, its consumption. Whew.

Sweeney Todd Part 11/27: The Contest / Ballad of Sweeney...
from YouTube :: Tag // storm February 08, 2008
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street 1982 Tour Cast, starring Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett and George Hearn as Sweeney Todd. Part 11 includes "The Contest" between Signor Adolfo Pirelli (Sal Mistretta) and Sweeney (George Hearn). Guess who wins! As Pirelli storms off abusing Toby (Ken Jennings), Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett (Angela Lansbury) start to leave. However, Sweeney's success attracts the notice of not only various onlookers but also Beadle Bamford (Calvin Remsberg), who promises to visit Sweeney before the week is out. Following is another "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd". I'd like to add that Sal Mistretta is my favourite Pirelli. 3:15! HighBridge – Heaven’s Net Is Wide – Audio Book Excerpt for 08-17-07
from HighBridge Audio Book Excerpts August 17, 2007
As Tolkien’s The Silmarillion is to The Lord of the Rings, Liam Hearn’s Heaven’s Net Is Wide is the backstory fans of the Tales of the Otori series have been yearning for. And for those as of yet unfamiliar with the four-part series, Heaven’s Net is your entry into a fantastic new world of ninjas, samurais, and mysticism. Set before the Tales of the Otori begins, Heaven’s Net recounts the life of Lord Otori Shigeru, the series’ spiritual warrior-godfather and adoptive father of the Tales’ Takeo. We learn about Shigeru’s training in the ways of the warrior and feudal lord; his relationship with the Tribe of mysteriously powerful assassins; his fateful meeting with Lady Maruyama, who would become his secret lover; the battle of Yaegahara, where his father is killed; and other turning points that shaped the Tales. The first four volumes gave us only glimpses. Now we are treated to rich detail and more of Hearn’s fantastical Japanese world. HighBridge Audio Book Excerpts presents HEAVEN'S NET IS WIDE, (www.highbridgeaudio.com/heavensnetiswide.html) by Lian Hearn; read by J. Paul Boehmer and Julia Fletcher.

HighBridge – The Harsh Cry of the Heron – Audio Book Excerpt for 09-22-06
from HighBridge Audio Book Excerpts September 22, 2006
Critics have described Lian Hearn's epic tales of a mythical, mystical Japan as "Part Shogan, part Lord of the Rings, and entirely enchanting." (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel). Its world of honor and code, customs, war, and love has captured the imaginations of a growing number of people around the world. The stories are now available in 32 countries and several languages. When Hearn first envisioned the Tales, it was as a three-part saga that she wrote in close succession. But, much to the luck and delight of its many fans, its characters would not rest. The result is THE HARSH CRY OF THE HERON, which takes up the story of the heroes of the first books, Takeo and Kaede, sixteen years later. HighBridge Audio Book Excerpts presents THE HARSH CRY OF THE HERON (www.highbridgeaudio.com/harshcryofheron.html), by Lian Hearn; read by Julia Fletcher and Henri Lubatti.
