Visiting the island of Oahu? Looking for a great relaxing experience? Why not take a sailing adventure on the Makani Catamaran and enjoy the beautiful scenery off the coast of Hawaii s hot spot, Waikiki. A few weeks ago I received a complimentary invite to enjoy a day of sailing on the Makani Catamaran along with a group of other travel and tourism professionals here in the islands. The experience was so relaxing and enjoyable. From the friendly atmosphere of the crew, to the wonderful pastry s that complemented the ride. It was a day for me just to sit back, relax and take in all the beauty and calmness of being out on the Pacific Ocean. Whether you plan to take a trip alone on the Makani or with a group of friends or family, I m sure you will enjoy. The experience shared with other travelers is one you won t forget and as a bonus you might just see some beautiful sea turtles or dolphins or maybe meet a new friend. So if you re looking for that extra special event to add to your vacation list, be sure and remember Makani Catamaran. You can book a trip direct from Makani or throughout our generous sponsor via the links below. iPod | 2:20 | To Embed or Email: click above I am out of town and left my intended footage back on my main hard drive so I found this remnant from last winter! It's got a mood to it I think, and it's dedicated to dog lovers and long shadows everywhere. The sound is minimal - just the sweet romancing rhythms of gentle late afternoon waves. Co-mingled with Lexi's steady breathing, and a reminder from my friend Lola Jones to "breathe for pleasure." I hope we at Beach Walks can cast a shadow of grace on you today. Mahalo for your patience in our absence. Hawaiian word: ho#699;oaka: to cast a shadow Subscribe to Beach Walks with Rox in iTunes. (Please leave us a review too!) Join our online community, The Reef. Take a peek into the new night show Ha Breath of Life at the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) located right here on Oahu in beautiful Laie. Recently I was invited as a guest to a special social media night hosted at the PCC which allowed Hawaii bloggers and social media guru s to get an up close backstage visit with the cast and crew of the new night show and then afterward experience it in all it s splendor. I must say I was impressed! Ha replaces the long running Horizons: Where the Sea Meets the Sky which had been in production since 1996. By the way, prior to the backstage visit and night show experience, we got to kick it all off with the amazing PCC Ali i Luau , which could quite possibly be called one of the best in Hawaii. Extra: If you re a local resident you too can experience Ha Breath of Life for a limited time special price. Learn more about the PCC social media Kama aina Special here. The 4th Annual Honolulu CANstruction Design/Build Competition was held today, August 15 from 8:00am - 2:00 pm at Pearlridge Mall, Uptown. This was an exciting six-hour competition led by AIA Architects, design professionals and engineers. Teams erected giant, carefully designed structures that were built entirely out of canned food to fit within a footprint of eight feet by eight feet, and as tall as eight feet. As they were being built you could see each structure taking on a form and design of its own. The canned food being used for the build as well as the canned food that will be used to cast votes, will benefit the Hawaii Food Bank. Mahalo again to Fung Associates, Inc. for inviting 808Talk along for the ride and a special mahalo to Polly Kauahi, Director of Development at the Hawaii Food Bank for taking some time to talk with us about the great service the HFB provides for the people of Hawaii. Today I get to show you one of the beautiful falls on my favorite island of Kauai. Wailua Falls is a 83-foot waterfall located in Kauai, Hawaii that feeds into the Wailua River. There is a path to the bottom of the falls, but it is muddy, slippery and dangerous. Some hikers have strung ropes along the path, but officials come by every so often and cut them. In ancient times, Hawaiian men would jump from the top of the falls to prove their manhood. There is another waterfall nearby named Opaeka a Falls. The Wailua Falls were featured on the opening credits of the television show Fantasy Island, which is why some refer to them as the Fantasy Island Falls. Beach Walk 740R - Memorial Day in the Pacific

iPod | 6:38 | To Embed or Email: click above We originally filmed this episode for Memorial Day in 2006. But it clearly stands out as a timeless message, and represents the true magic of Beach Walks. It is all completely unscripted, no shot list, we just showed up and worked as fast as we could before the sun set. Sometimes, you know the universe is on your side.Today's show was filmed at the Hawaii Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. 50,000 leis were donated, and over 100 young Boy Scouts placed a lei and a flag on each gravestone. I was quite stirred to be in the presence of death while smelling the sweet scent of plumeria lei. Though most of those buried here are from modern wars, this "punchbowl" of an ancient volcano was the site of Hawaiian ali i burials and human sacrifice of those who violated the kapu or taboos. iPod | 3:00 | To Embed or Email: click above I've been conducting a very lackadaisical campaign on Beach Walks over the past three years to change attitudes about bikinis aka the Bikini Liberation Front. We mostly approach them from the point of view of bikini watchers, not bikini wearers. It is so loaded with who should or should not wear one. Well here in Hawaii they are ubiquitous! No matter what kine body you have - it just feels good to have the warm water of the Pacific and the warm sunshine wash over you. Wayne Dyer once said something very apropos here: "What you think of me is none of my business." So if you find yourself wanting to wear a bikini this summer, it just may be that all that needs to get in shape is your mind!
