'Yogi Bear' Will Cry Me A River With Its Cast

Yogi Bear and Boo Boo are bringing sexy back -- and that image should make you ripe for nightmares tonight. If you doubt me, look to Variety, who reports that Dan Aykroyd, Anna Faris, and Justin Timberlake are set to go to Jellystone in Yogi Bear, which Eric Brevig is directing for Warner Bros. Aykroyd will be voicing Yogi, and he really is the most obvious choice to play the picnic basket thief. He's funny, he sounds gruff, and if it was live-action it would be a very terrifying thing to see. So thank goodness this is being done as a CG / live-action hybrid. Timberlake will be voicing Boo Boo. Yep. The man who wants to love your mother, put his d*ck in a box, and who will cry you a river will lend his vocal talents to playing Yogi's diminutive sidekick. In this update of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon, expect Boo Boo to be a lot more of a smart aleck. (I was going to say "sassy," but I think that would be a far different Boo Boo.) Though Faris has done voice work before, it sounds as though she might be one of the live action elements to this unholy hybrid. Variety says she's set to play a documentary filmmaker. Presumably she discovers the tourist robbing bears, and makes a film of them. Or she has to help them preserve Jellystone against evil developers. Either way, she'll have to talk to big rubbery CG bears, and it might be kind of weird. What would be even weirder is if one or both bears fell in love with her, so let's hope she falls into the arms of whoever plays Ranger Smith. Shooting is expected to start in New Zealand next month.Filed under: Animation, Comedy, Casting, Warner Brothers, Family Films, Newsstand, Remakes and Sequels Permalink | Email this | Comments

Peter Segal Replaces Rodriguez on 'The Jetsons'?

By: John Gholson This movie should've happened fifteen years ago, and it should've starred Tim Allen. It didn't, so here we are in 2009 talking about whether or not a live-action movie based on Hanna-Barbera's animated "futuristic" sitcom The Jetsons will ever see the light of day. Pajiba says yes, and they say that Peter Segal (Get Smart, Tommy Boy) is the director currently circling the long-dormant project. Director Robert Rodriguez (Shorts) was once enthusiastic about taking a crack at the material, but Warner Brothers wants to move on the project soon and Rodriguez keeps a full plate. Unlike Pajiba, though, I don't see this potential shift in directors as a huge step down. Read the rest over at SciFi SquadFiled under: RumorMonger, Fandom Permalink | Email this | Comments

As I was growing up, like many kids of today, a big part of my daily life was enjoying the cartoons of the era! In the days before television, cartoons were always played before any movie that you went to see. Movies were preceded by a cartoon, sometimes two or three, sometimes more, and a serial such as Flash Gordon, Roy Rogers, or Superman. Then came the newsreels of the day -- and, finally, the movie! If you missed anything you could always stay over for the next show and see what you missed! Try that today and see where it gets you! When TV arrived in the early 50's, we sat around the TV set on Saturday mornings and watched the usual fare of Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Tom and Jerry, and so on. The list goes on and on! Boy, those were the days! I believe that had it not been for cartoons, I would have had very little appreciation of classical musical! In addition to the daily dose of big band music in our house, which my mother listened to continuously, big band music provided the background for the antics of Tom and Jerry and others during this era. You could even argue that these cartoons helped us win the second World War and put a smile on a lot of dreary faces! So I thought it might be fun to take a stroll down memory lane with some of our favorite music and the characters that brought so much joy to our lives back then! Walt Disney was the pre-eminent cartoon maker. He had a big hand turning out moral-boosting films and raising money for the war effort. Here was one of his first efforts: All Together One of the most famous films of the war era won an Academy Award in 1943 for Animated Short Film and was later voted No. 22 of the 50 greatest cartoons of all time by members of the animation field. It was called Der Furher's Face and was based on the song by Spike Jones and His City Slickers. Der Furher's Face Not to be out done, Walter Lantz, the creator of Woody Woodpecker and others cartoon characters, got into the act with a few creations of his own: Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy Just as important was the enthusiasm that the band leaders showed with their involvement in these special productions. In this 1946 production, Benny Goodman and His Orchestra never let the pace sag as the Disney animators add just the right touch to bring their line drawings to life: All the Cats Join In Even today, these cartoons hold so much fascination that people add their own sound tracks: A Tribute - Tom and Jerry What can you say for guys like Hanna and Barbera in their 1944 one reel production of the Zoot Cat featuring Tom and Jerry? The cartoon opens with a Valentine note that reads: Roses are red Violets are Blue Mice are Nice But, OH You Kid There is a pink ribbon tied to the card. The ribbon is tied to Jerry, who is in a gift box. Tom is getting ready for a date with his whiskers in curlers and putting lard on the top of his head. He puts on a little cologne and even puts some on Jerry, then closes the box on him. He then proudly marches over to his female friend's house. Cab Calloway, eat your heart out! The Zoot Cat Benny Goodman always had his hat in the ring when it came to having fun, as this piece shows that he did with Peggy Lee for Disney Lady and the Tramp That movie just seemed to draw out people who wanted to get involved -- as does this contemporary cartoon featuring Queen Latifah: Big, Blonde and Beautiful Who could ever forget Walt Disney’s 1970 romance-musical featuring the Aristocats? The grand opening features Scat Cat's band, who perform a reprise of Everybody Wants to Be a Cat: WOW what fun! What a way to start the year off! I hope you all have a Happy New Year! Cheers!
