Jonesing for spectacular nature photography? You got it! The Madison Valley, just north of Yellowstone, is a richly diverse ecosystem where just about every big-game species in Montana can be found. Grizzly and black bears, wolverines, elk, deer, moose, and pronghorns all use the Valley for seasonal migration, food, and breeding. However, development and the resulting fragmentation of large, interconnected ranges put this habitat at risk for the animals, especially wolverines, which are particularly intolerant of human activity and require vast ranges for their survival. K.C. Breen shows us how human encroachment in the Valley is being mitigated for wildlife's sake in "Yellowstone's Wildlife Highway: Promoting Connectivity in the Madison Valley".

I actually won a Mark of Excellence Award in 1987 from the Society of Professional Journalists for this piece...despite the fact that I am wearing two layers of shoulder pads and have a white-knuckle grip on the mike. ;-) Please forgive the mid-80s "state-of-the-art" technology here. This was first done on 3/4" tape and then transferred to VHS (which degraded nicely in a cabinet over 14 years before it was transferred to VCD).

But I realised that they must be building a nest as they have been there ever since I filmed this. Interestingly I was able to capture the part where one bird decides to take over from the other.

Mountain Country Homes of Hope began as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity in 1987, serving both Taney and Stone counties in Missouri. In 2006 we formed Mountain Country Homes of Hope (MCHH) to better serve the families in our community. To date, we have built over 50 homes for area families living in sub-standard or over-crowded housing.MCHH is a Christian ministry based on biblical doctrine; however, all our projects adhere to a nondiscriminatory family selection policy where neither race nor religion determines who will receive a MCHH home. Families are selected on the following three criteria: Need for housing, ability to pay and willingness to partnership.An average 3 bedroom, one bath home costs between $ 40,000.00 to $ 50,000.00 depending upon the location. To keep the costs as low as possible, donations of materials, labor and land are solicited. Most labor comes from work camps from across the country as well as local groups. No government funds are used.Over the past years, MCHH has provided housing for hundreds of people, but there is still an estimated 1,600 families living in poverty level housing in Stone and Taney counties.
