Wes Anderson's 10 Best Movie Music Moments

Wes Anderson's 10 Best Movie Music Moments

from Spinner on November 10, 2009
Duration: 0
Filed under: The Hit List Perfectly matching a song with a scene is nothing new (see: Scorsese, Martin), but Wes Anderson takes the movie soundtrack to new levels of artistry. In all his films, the young writer-director displayed a record geek's ability to wow viewers with a song that's not only enjoyable but, at its best, makes a scene instantly memorable. With the release of 'Fantastic Mr. Fox,' Anderson's first animated feature, Spinner picked the director's 10 best music moments. The Who, 'A Quick One While He's Away' ('Rushmore') While a ton of songs in 'Rushmore' enhance scenes, this revenge montage, where Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman feud over the love of a local teacher, is absolutely killer in that department. As icing on the cake, Anderson stops the Who's sonic assault (lifted from their amazing performance on 'The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus') for a moment, then kicks it back in with a cut to Schwartzman in handcuffs being dragged down a high school hallway. Meanwhile, the Who, rather ironically, scream, "You are forgiven!"

Gwyneth Paltrow Joins Nicole Kidman in 'The Danish Girl'

Gwyneth Paltrow Joins Nicole Kidman in 'The Danish Girl'

from Cinematical on November 06, 2009
Duration: 0
The upcoming The Danish Girl is one of those independent, edgy films that has all the right elements for something brilliant, but it's subject matter is so tricky that it could end up becoming a farce. Based on David Ebershoff's novel, The Danish Girl is the story of the world's first post-operative transsexual, Einar Wegener, and his wife, Greta. Tomas Alfredson is set to direct, Nicole Kidman has long been attached to play Einar, and Variety reports that Gwyneth Paltrow has stepped in to play Greta. She's stepping in for Charlize Theron, who originally held the role, but has dropped out for unspecified reasons. The story takes place in 1920s Denmark. Greta* was a portrait painter, and needed a model. She asked Einar to step into a dress, stockings, and heels, and created some kind of awakening in Einar. In women's clothes, her husband became an outrageous character named Lili. The paintings of Lili became extremely popular, few realizing a man had stood in for them. Lili than took on a public life of her own, and Greta often introduced Lili as her sister. Eventually, Einar / Lili decided to commit to gender reassignment surgery, a dangerous and experimental procedure at the time. Greta stood beside her husband until his transformation was complete, and then their marriage was declared null and void by the King of Denmark.Filed under: Drama, Gay & Lesbian, Independent, Casting, NewsstandContinue reading Gwyneth Paltrow Joins Nicole Kidman in 'The Danish Girl' Permalink | Email this | Comments

'Iron Man 2' Set Footage Revealed

'Iron Man 2' Set Footage Revealed

from Cinematical on September 25, 2009
Duration: 0
We told you earlier in the week over on SciFi Squad that Entertainment Tonight would be unveiling a whole ton of set footage from their trip to visit Iron Man 2, and in case you missed the program last night, that footage is now online. What you're getting isn't a whole lot more than we've already seen -- the day they visited the set was during the Monaco Racetrack scene, which has already been teased in those previously released images of Mickey Rourke as Whiplash and a bloody Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. However, this time you get to see some of the action minus the special effects -- as cars are flipping over and exploding while Rourke slices through a car with his whip and cuts it right in half. (Not for nothing but that's gotta look cool when it's all said and done and up on the big screen.) In addition to interviews and set footage (not movie footage) from the racetrack scene, we get a little back and forth inside Tony Stark's Iron Man chamber between Stark and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), as well as the first footage of Scarlett Johansson as Tony's assistant Natasha (aka Black Widow). Interviews with Downey Jr., Paltrow and Johansson accompany the footage, and while they don't really reveal any juicy nuggets (other than the fact that Downey Jr. takes off his shirt in one scene), it does look like they're having a ton of fun. Watch the video after the jump. Iron Man 2 hits theaters on May 7.
