It is unfortunate that very few people are aware of these capabilities. I doubt there are any laws at present to protect us from such manipulation. I purchased this yirdaki from Gapanbulu Yunupingu on New Year's Eve 2007. Gapanbulu is best known as a Yothu Yindi band member and one of its current yirdaki players. He is also the full nephew of the late Mr David M. Mununggurr, arguably one of the all-time yirdaki greats to ever walk this earth. Gapanbulu intended to bring this yirdaki back to Broome, Western Australia, which is his current home base. However, he needed money to get there so offered to sell this instrument to me the day before the New Year. You can see the airline luggage tag still on this instrument in the iDIDJ Store! http://www.ididj.com.au/store/fine_didjeridus.html This yirdaki is huge for an F fundamental, measuring a whopping 151.5 cm in length. This makes sense as it has a bell up to 12.5 cm in diameter which is just enormous by yirdaki standards. The bore is lovely and convoluted, conical in shape which gives excellent back pressure. I especially love the strong tongued accents that are possible on this instrument. This is a really wonderful instrument to play which is particularly good for vocal calls, something Gapanbulu pointed out to me when he first exclaimed the virtues of this stick to me. We hurried back to his place to get the instrument, and I happened to have my video camera with me at the time so made this early morning clip of it... sorry it is so dark!
