It was just about the music. It was about organizing for peace, protesting injustice, and slanders against millions of galaxies. From Tubular TV's Scenes from the Summer of Love 40th Anniversary, this episode takes a brief look at the causes and protest signs at the festival. As fortune would have it, a man who is voicing his protest over slanders against millions of galaxies was able to send out this message.

Lester Chambers, former lead singer and front man of the group The Chambers Brothers, and his band perform "People Get Ready" and "Time Has Come Today" in one of the high points of the day. "Time..." reverberates with the line, "My soul's been psychedelicized," and this video adds a heavy dose of mind melting effects. As the high spirits gather, even Jimi Hendrix seems to appear in the concert crowd.

California State Assemblyman Mark Leno presents Boots Hughston coordinator of Summer of Love 40th Anniversary with a Proclamation recognizing the spiritual awakening in Golden Gate Park, and introduces one of the members of The Doors, Ray Manzarek who did a short set with poet Michael McClure, Rob Wasserman (bass) and Jay Lane (drums). This is the first of a series of clips that will be edited from 2 hours of video of we shot at this event. More to come real soon!

One of the great city parks in the world.  I love this place.  Features the Japanese Gardens, art museum, hippie hill.    That's where I was in the summer of 67.  Back in da day.

Trust me, these beautiful American Bison are just as out of place in Golden Gate Park as they are anywhere east of the Mississippi. Still, their peaceful luxuriance even in the irrigated folds of the park provide a model for adaptability. To be perfectly cynical, how delicious do they look? Don't try to deny it.
