Google Acquires Gizmo5!

Google Acquires Gizmo5!

from me on blip.tv (beta) on November 12, 2009
Duration: 414
In this video, I talk about the recent acquisition by Google: Gizmo5. Gizmo5 used to be known as "the Gizmo Project" and it was widely known as the #1 competitor to the juggernaut, Skype. Gizmo offered a lot of flexibility in terms of SIP compatibility and free land-line conference call options. Combining this exciting technology with Google's Voice product, and you have a formula for something incredible. Check out the video for more.

For this special offer, visit www.gotomeeting.com/techpodcasts Sponsor: Try SquareSpace free for 14 days, use the code "bwana" to save 10% on the life of the account www.squarespace.com/?associateTag=bwana In this video, I answer two questions from @iRelenquished http:/twitter.com/iRelenquished - who utilized the #bwanatvqa hashtag on Twitter. He wants to know what the best headset he can get for $10. First off, $10 is way too low for a decent headset. I suggest a $20-25 headset that come from Logitech or Plantronics which are both Skype approved. He also asks if Skype is good for guest hosts on podcasts. I recommend Skype but for more flexibility, Gizmo project (http://gizmo5.com). Gizmo project utilizes open standards like SIP which broadens your podcasting options. Hope this helps. Thanks to iRelenquished for the question.

On Digital Media, Episode #35

On Digital Media, Episode #35

from On Digital Media on May 17, 2007
Duration: 3396
It s our first fivesome! John Federico, Chia-Lin Simmons, Ken Gellman, Steve Hatch and guest panelist John Havens review the top digital media stories of the week. (Our audio quality is not up to our usual standards in this episode. Ken called-in via Gizmo Project and John is still learning how to deal with balancing remote callers with in-studio panelists. Please pardon the faux pas.) Thanks to Seth Godin, Hugh McLeod and Stormhoek for the Pinotage tonight. Amazon is going to launch a DRM-free music store. Chia-Lin thinks that industry should get together and formulate a ubiquitous standard for DRM. Really!? Steve thinks that s a monumental task. John F. agrees. John H. thinks that DRM helps artists get paid. John F. thinks that some file sharing is good - as promotion. Audible Magic and The Harry Fox Agency to launch a service that will track piracy in UGC. John H. thinks that this service could be a great way to measure passalong listening for podcasts. Ryan Block from Engadget posted a story that caused Apple s stock to drop a couple of points - the story was ultimately proven false. A strike of members of the guilds in hollywood and television could put studios and other distributors at a disadvantage given the ease at which the internet enables production and distribution of content John H. shares his perspective on being paid for your craft - whether it be acting, writing - or podcasting. Why are people willing to pay 99 cents for a song, but not an informational podcast. Like ODM for instance. Steve and John F. don t believe in creating friction, particularly when advertising can fund content and reduce friction Comcast is going to start selling movies on-demand while they re in the theaters and charge $30 - $60 premium for the privelege. And Mark Cuban thinks the theaters have to get a cut. (If you count the babysitter, we parents already pay that much for a movie ) ABC is going to be putting Lost and Desperate Housewives on the web and distributing them in HD. 24/7 Real Media is bought by WPP. Conflict of interest? Yeah. DiscRevolt allows bands to sell custom gift cards for their music. Chia-Lin thinks all gift cards are evil. Our closing music is Democracy from Alexander Blu. Interview with Peter Davenport -Director of the National UFO Reporting Center, Part I

Interview with Peter Davenport -Director of the National UFO Reporting Center, Part I

from Wonderosity on December 12, 2006
Duration: 0
I think my favorite thing about doing wonderosity shows is that I get to literally follow my curiosity to any place that I might not have previously followed it without the excuse of recording the conversations and interviews for a podcast.  Today s show is an interview with Peter Davenport, the 12 year director of the National UFO Reporting Agency.  He was a delight to talk to, honest and friendly, and I think you ll enjoy this first part of our conversation.  In this show  we talk about: Peter s involvement with NUFORC His 1st encounter with a UFO as a child and later first attempts/interests in reporting How NUFORC works, who calls, why?  Anonyminity? Peter s opinions about the 3 most dramatic, credible and fairly recent UFO reportings This thursday s Wonderosity Live show will be following up on this subject, we ll talk about UFOs and your thoughts on Are we alone? Other Notes: Slightly skippy audio, having some problems with Gizmo Project Background music, trusting in the good nature of Sufjan Stevens ,was the song Concerning the UFO Sightings Near Highland, Illinois Tags: wonderosity, wonderosityshow, nuforc, peterdavenport, ufo, aliens, interview, talkshoe, gizmoproject, sufjan, sufjanstevens Powered by Qumana

from Tech Tuesday on July 12, 2005
Duration: 10
Episode 8 includes a potluck of articles (Tim Moses), Gizmo Project voip and Apple's bluetooth remote patent (Bill Butler) and Apple's hinting at being a wireless carrier (Rick Ewing). By the way, our audio ROCKS this week due to the Gizmo Project VOIP phone and Audio Hijack. This is by far the best combination for podcasting with multiple people in different locations!
