To access the complete lesson on this topic, go to http://www.yourteacher.com. Students learn that changing the position of a given figure is called a transformation. When a figure is flipped over to create a mirror image, the transformation is called a reflection. When a figure is turned to a new position, the transformation is called a rotation. When a figure slides to a new position without flipping or turning, the transformation is called a translation. And when the dimensions of a figure are increased or decreased to create a new figure that is similar to the original figure, the transformation is called a dilation.

To access the complete lesson on this topic, go to http://www.yourteacher.com. Students learn that when a figure is turned to a new position, the transformation is called a rotation. Students are then asked to describe a given rotation by estimating the number of degrees and stating the direction that a given figure has been rotated. For example, the figure has been rotated 90 degrees clockwise. Students are also asked to draw rotations of a given figure. For example, rotate the given figure 45 degrees counterclockwise.
