A local student is one step closer to the National Geographic State Bee, after taking first place at their school's own bee. Tori Fisher, an 8th grade student at Traverse City East Middle School, placed first in a competition between 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at the school; as the school's bee winner Fisher will be taking a written test to qualify for the state competition on April 3. Traverse City East Middle School has competed in the National Geographic Bee for years; they said that the bee gives a great venue for those who excel in knowledge about the world around them.
