Web 2.0 ... The Machine is Us/ing Us - WeschWeb2v2

Web 2.0 ... The Machine is Us/ing Us - WeschWeb2v2

from Scott MacLeod on February 13, 2007
Duration: 273
Web 2.0 ... The Machine is Us/ing Us " My videos explore mediated culture, seeking to merge the ideas of Media Ecology and Cultural Anthropology." [thanks to steve lacey for posting this video on his blog] The original is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gmP4nk0EOE and has had over 964,017 views. What is very interesting to me about this video is not the sheer amount of connected people that are spreading it to their geek friends to watch but also it is one of those videos that might just explain to non techy folks how the internet works to a certain degree and why we are all excited about rss2 and web2 features (even if all they are really just mechanizms behind the scenes to interact and present things to the user nicer)- admittly xml and rss are amazing creations whatever way you look at it 2007 - the year people noticed geeks. We are fine tuning the world is tiny packets of data. Also, and this is a great slant on the original video, over on mojiti (http://mojiti.com/kan/2024/3313) please are adding additional comments over the original video, fine tuning again from lots of input from around the world, it is hard to watch but man talk about process controlled by process - it's like watching a viral video get honed by a load of worker ants (geeks)and getting a perfect result out. amazing. I'm going to post a link on the burtonstream site i think to show non techy people how much the internet has changed and how important it is now to move away from thinking that websites are copies of their catalog but real spaces, mediums of media that people want to absorb - make decisions on and see if you are the right sort of company and ultimately people they want to work with. It's like fine tuning the group of people that will understand you and not judge you by process of information and not elimination. wow. that's deep. Spread the video. It deserves to be noticed. Props to the dude that made it (Michael Wesch )you can find more about him here http://mediatedcultures.net/ksudigg/ and also http://www.ksu.edu/sasw/anthro/wesch.htm - he is an "assistant professor of cultural anthropology, but first and foremost I am a student of the world. I have the coolest job in the world, organizing massive teams of K-State students into global citizens working for a better tomorrow" Also, i gotta add, the MUSIC is what makes this video because it sparks memorys for us old school geeks of the 80's, when computers were new for the consumer - the fast pace rush of microchips and tech. Really good music selection. Oh and for those "types" that wanna download the music wait until the end, the link is there.*UPDATE* - for the ultra lazy, im uploading the free to share mp3 album at http://backupcluster.com/deus - the track you want is "there's nothing impossible" - the rest is a bit 8bit and erm, out there. :) Not only did i get to see a great video today, i downloaded a free album of music that i liked (from the video) and got a url to get tons more from for free! - great vloggers resource for music for videos, we have no excuses now. :) http://www.jamendo.com
