Blackfriars Repertory Theatre presents a new play by Harry Cornelius Cronin, an adaptation of a medieval miracle story transposed to the present day in which the Blessed Virgin Mary (Our Lady of Guadalupe) contends with the devil (a mariachi band member) for the soul of a dead Mexican gang leader in present-day Los Angeles. Playwright Cronin s produced plays include Dark Matter; Dooley; The Children of Hercules; Memoirs of Jesus; Naomi, Skip and the Reverend Garden; Fitzgerald and Hemingway; and The Burghers of Calais. Cronin is a two-time recipient of the Dramalogue Award.The play was directed by Fr. Peter John Cameron, O.P., the artistic director of Blackfriars. The assistant director is Mat Bussler, and the music director is Brendan Barr. Thomas Dunlea is the technical director, Maureen Hough is the costume designer, and Leta Tremblay is the stage manager. The cast features Jessica Angleskhan, Isaac Cruz, Maureen Dowdell, Adam Jes s La Faci, George Lugo, Janice Picconi, Kelly Swartz, Katherine Tamariz, Danielle Tolles, and Christopher Zorker.

On Saturday, September 15, 2007, our brothers Hugh Vincent Dyer, O.P., and Thomas Joseph White, O.P., were ordained to the Order of Deacons. The Mass of Ordination began at 11:00am in the Priory chapel. The ordaining prelate was Most Rev. Edwin F. O'Brien, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, formerly Archbishop of the Archdiocese of the Military Services of the United States of America.

John Frederick Hinnebusch, O.P., of the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC, recalls the life of his brother, William Aquinas Hinnebusch, O.P., Dominican priest, historian, and member of the Eastern Dominican Province of St. Joseph. 17 min audio recorded September 1, 2007, in the Priory of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies, Washington, D.C. The two published volumes of the larger History of the Dominican Order (1966-) by Fr. W. A. Hinnebusch are: Vol 1. Origins and growth to 1500; V. 2. The intellectual and cultural life to 1500. The Short History was first published in 1975. His dissertation on the history of the early English Dominicans was published in Rome in 1951 as The Early English Friars Preachers.

A monastery in a crime-ridden part of Newark has been open for four years, defying a trend of monasteries losing monks. Bonniwell, then 96 years old, recalls his service as an army chaplain in World War I. A Dominican preacher and teacher, he is remembered especially for his books on the Dominican liturgy and on the life of Blessed Margaret of Costello (1287-1320).
