I decided to leave the dogs first thing in the morning to check up on the lions. They’d done pretty well on the buffalo carcass and now all that was left was the skin and neck. This didn’t deter them from continuing to chew on the carcass and making sure the vultures weren’t going to get their share. It was mid morning when I checked up on the dogs. They hadn’t moved far from where I had them yesterday, but were in some thick bush and with me bashing around after them they took off. I didn’t want to stress them anymore, especially having only just put the collar on them yesterday. So left them in peace. The story behind a famous photograph of Bob Dylan by legendary photographer Elliott Landy.During Bob Dylan's retreat in Woodstock following his motorcycle accident in 1967, very few pictures were taken of him during that time...Some of the few...incredibly iconic shots...were taken by photographer Elliott Landy.In one particular photograph, Dylan stands outside of a bakery in Woodstock flanked by...whom?Well, it would be hard for anyone who lived in Woodstock for a good period of time NOT to get to know David Boyle and Dean Schambach, two Woodstock carpenters who were initially brought up by Albert Grossman from New York City to work on Grossman's buildings.Boyle and Schambach are also true characters, in a way that only Woodstock can produce, and I originally did this section of "Woodstock Can't Get There From Here:: 1.) Because I was a Dylan fanatic and; 2.) Because I wanted to see how two people respond differently to the same historical event.This is one of the first sequences of the film I ever worked on, and it never made it to the final cut. Why? I have no idea. Maybe poor sound. But when a Dylan website ran the same photograph a couple of weeks ago with questions about its details, I knew I had the answer, though that answer lay on a long-forgotten hard drive stashed in a bedroom closet for four years.Having checked it out again, I'm glad I made it. Sure, the sound sucks, but what a lucky thing to be able to film something like this. And if you're ever in Woodstock, make sure to track down David and Dean.
