Betty Comden :"...All Our Hard Work Ain't Been in Vain for Nothin' "
from Ben Avilez on November 25, 2006
Duration: 410
Duration: 410
In this brief fragment filmed on July 7, 2003, Betty Comden is guest of honor at a Film Forum , NY, screening of "It's Always Fair Weather", a scathing satire of tv advertising in its infancy. The lyricist-screenwriter pays tribute to her long-time collaborator, the late Adolph Green. According to Comden, they made up the story, originally intended for a Broadway show, on a two and a half day cross country train ride to LA. [At Gene Kelly's insistence, it was made as a film, which Kelly co-directed with Stanley Donen.] She has the audience in stitches with her impersonation of Lina Lamont from "Singing in the Rain. " Later, she graciously holds court in the lobby with repertory curator Bruce Goldstein and members of the audience. [Betty Comden died in Manhattan on November 23 at the age of 89]
