Today is Eid el fitri -a celebration of the end of Ramadan, which is the month long fast by Muslims. Ramadan is observed by fasting from dawn to dusk for 30 days, and the fast is broken each evening with a hearty dinner at home or at the many community gatherings usually held at that time of the year.
