Soft City Lights: Bad Veins from Soft City Lights on Vimeo. The snow is changing to rain and back again in Cincinnati, OH. Every window gleams white and cold. And every year on the first snow it brings back these feelings of nostalgia and loss. It’s a perfect moment to listen to Bad Veins. Maybe because hidden within the sounds of old, scratched vinyl, there’s an element of comfort in the honest lyrics, that can be self-aware enough to admit that you are completely and utterly believing in the lie. And though it sounds modern, it still sounds as if its continuing a story that left off in the 1960’s. That even though it’s moving forward, it’s still very much connected to the past. And maybe that’s where some of the comfort lies. Timeless music has a way of transcending the ordinary, dull moments of our lives. And as Steve Earle brilliantly pointed out, most people avoid “trancendence at all costs, mainly because the shit hurts.” But if you stick with the journey long enough, you start growing because of it. This capsule of moments from spending time with Ben and Sebastien will hopefully give you a glimpse of what and why they are making the music that they are making. The songs they are creating are big and grand and from the unreleased tracks I was granted to hear, I truly believe they’ll be going to bigger and grander places. It feels really exciting to be releasing episodes again, I've been editing and filming the last few nights till 5 in the morning, and although it's been hell on my cold, I've had a blast doing it. I'm anxious to get started on part 2 - when Amanda and I originally began writing the production related episodes, we were expecting to fit everything into 3 cuts. But that doesn't look to be the case any longer - we're finding we have a lot more to say, and many different layers of the whole experience to cover. We edited in Sony Vegas8 some of our boxes full of HDV footage with origional sound. Most times I use the broadcastquality stereo mic 'Tomrig'. Google for this word to get all info. First the big Lion was used in many BBC close-ups and the young one in a tree I took 3 years ago with my first HDV Sony FX1, second a wild Leopard and Lions in Kruger Park eating a Buffel and Zulu Dance group in St.Lucia were taken march 2007 with my latest one Sony HVR-V1U (V1E), the Pied Kingfisher with 20x optical + 10x electronic extra so 30 x zoom that makes this camera ideal for nature& birdshots. The beautifull Gibbon named Atlas you can find in Monkeyland trees near Plettenburg with Sony HDR-HC1 and Shots Borneo Malaysia Dugong (manetee) with HDR-HC7 in a special EWA marine underwaterbag with Century fisheye. On the other clip (Test 1) I show a Sanyo HD1000 clip streight from the new 8 Gig Extreme III SDHC card in the new BluRay VAIO VGN-FZ21Z laptop. We are now testing the new Letus35mm mini lens on the 37mm from Sanyo and Sony.
