Daily Life in Iraq with Farnaz Fassihi and Fact Checking the Campaigns
from Weekday Podcast October 09, 2008
In September of 2004, Farnaz Fassihi, an Iranian American journalist for the Wall Street Journal, sent a private email to family and friends that described the situation in Iraq. She wrote, One could argue that Iraq is already lost beyond salvation. For those of us on the ground it's hard to imagine what, if anything, could salvage it from its violent downward spiral. Her new book is Waiting for an Ordinary Day: The Unraveling of Life in Iraq. Presidential campaigns can get a little ugly. There's a lot of 'facts' being bandied about by both candidates these days. But what's really true? We've asked Viveca Novak from factcheck.org to help us sort out the whoppers from the zingers.

Beach Walk 655 - Gossip is Losing Power
from Beach Walks with Rox June 19, 2008
iPod | Phone | 4:11 Last week Barack Obama launched a new web site Fight the Smears to be able to respond to false attacks and politically-motivated slurs. It reminds of FactCheck.org which is a non-partisan site run by the Annenberg Foundation. In the old days, someone could start a rumor or make a claim and it was very difficult to combat it. Once it made it onto the airways, where media and communication was in the hands of a very few, one bad story could make or break a person. Not anymore. Bloggers and journalists alike can put forth their own view of the "facts" and more than ever we can choose whom to believe and support. I like that. If you are interested in new media, please consider coming to the New Media Expo in August. Shane and I will be speaking there and it is the original annual event for professional podcasting. Fact Checking
from Where's the Outrage? April 30, 2007
I don t understand. I wrote a book. It was 1/5 as long as Tenet s. I didn t have a team of writers helping me. I didn t get a $4 million deal. Yet, I believe that all of the facts in my book (A Letter to American: Is President Bush Leading Us in the Right Direction?) are correct. How do you open your book with a story about Richard Perle and not check to make sure that you have the right date? You are the former Director of the CIA for Christ sake!! You are supposed to get your facts correct! The intellectual laziness is unforgivable. He knew that the neocons were going to attack this book. He had to get his facts right but in the very first chapter he fumbled the ball. It makes me want to scream!!! (Think Progess has the evidence that Richard Perle was pushing a war with Iraq soon after 9/11. They checked the facts.) 9 11, Bill kristol, director of the cia, fact check, george tenet, neocons, richard perle Download More Tenet
