30754 Blue Planet Run: A Race To Provide Safe Drinking Water To
from Metacafe - Today's Videos by Metacafe December 10, 2007
Blue Planet Run represents an extraordinary collaboration of photographers, journalists, leading environmentalists, information designers and athletes who teamed up over the summer of 2007 to put a human face on one of the biggest challenges facing humanity today: the world's rapidly disappearing source of clean water One hundred percent of the royalties from Blue Planet Run will be used to provide clean water to the people around the world who desperately need it. Many people in the developed world still assume the global water crisis has nothing to do with them - that it's a crisis for 'those poor people, over there.' The painful truth is that the water crisis is now on every continent and in cities large and small. This crisis affects every human being on the planet, but most of us just aren't paying attention yet. â Robert Redford, from the Foreword Rick Smolan and Jennifer Erwitt, authors of highly acclaimed illustrated books including the New York Times bestselling Day in the Life and America 24/7 series, are releasing Blue Planet Run (Earth Aware Editions, December 2007). A powerful and disturbing visual journey, this book is aimed at sparking a global conversation about a problem that until now has received relatively little attention: the global water crisis. The New Clean Energy Economy: Three Views
from KUOW's The Conversation November 23, 2007
There's a consensus on moving toward a clean energy economy, but many disagreements about how to get there. Today, we'll hear three perspectives. The self-described bad boys of American Environmentalism, Ted Nordhaus and Michael Shellenberger think the green movement is lame. They reject the politics of limits. Find out why the veteran activists are now considered heretics. Van Jones is an Oakland activist who believes the clean energy economy can lift people out of poverty into green collar jobs. Denis Hayes was coordinator of the first Earth Day, and now he directs the Bullet Foundation with a goal of making the Northwest the most environmentally progressive corner of America.

Authors@Google: Bjorn Lomborg
from YouTube :: Tag // copenhagen October 05, 2007
In Cool It, Bjorn Lomborg argues that many of the elaborate and expensive actions now being considered to stop global warming will cost hundreds of billions of dollars, are often based on emotional rather than strictly scientific assumptions, and may very well have little impact on the world's temperature for hundreds of years. Rather than starting with the most radical procedures, Lomborg... The Ugly Girls’ Club- Episode #012: The Political Episode
from TPN :: Ugly Girls Club July 26, 2006
Welcome to the Ugly Girls’ Club hosted by Dr. Jan and Betsy! This is episode #012, The Political Episode. [audio:http://uglygirlsclub.thepodcastnetwork.com/audio/tpn_uglygirlsclub_20060725_012.mp3] Download Link [1] In this podcast, tune in to hear Betsy and Dr. Jan discussing… 1) Fictional. Betsy shares her rendition of the fictionality of the podcast. 2) Betsy’s New Nails. Betsy goes in to her nail tech, and they agree it is “freakin’ Africa hot.” Dr. Jan thinks that people in the “ole days” who didn’t have air conditioning must have been real skinny and scrawny. Skinny and scrawny folks handle the heat better. 3) The Magic Eraser. The girls can’t get over how much they love Mr. Clean’s Magic Eraser… they are still amazed at the magical qualities. Dr. Jan thinks they need to invest some of their earnings from being international podcast network stars in the venture. 4) Hot Fridays. Betsy recommends that Dr. Jan start “super soaking” her students on Fridays. 5) What in the heck? Dr. Jan is worried about the state of the world and all the hostilities going on. Betsy thinks the end of the world is imminent. Dr. Jan doesn’t like to hear that kind of stuff and rebukes Betsy into stop talking that way. 6) Flies. Dr. Jan wonders if all the flies are part of the end of time. She hates flies and roaches. Dr. Jan is having compliance issues… no one will do what she tells them to do about the flies. She orders fly traps on the internet at a horse place at www.doversaddlery.com [2]. 7) Election returns. The girls launch into a truly non-funny part of their discussions. Then, they debate whether they should even include this discussion in the podcast (they don’t). Dr. Jan is tired of conservative people. 8) Funny Terry. It turns out that Terry D. was the “discoverer” of the Magic Eraser. Betsy’s funny husband, Terry D., joins the discussion and tells a joke. Dr. Jan returns with her “halo statue” joke. Terry promises to return with more jokes in the future. 9) Betsy is frustrated. The kids have been driving Betsy crazy; she advised her kids that her tranquilizers were coming out of their allowance. Dr. Jan thinks that the kids must be brought into perspective; they make working look so good! 10) Tree huggers. Dr. Jan considers having another “let’s save the environment” discussion with Betsy. She worries that she doesn’t have the right look for environmentalists. Betsy advises that she needs a braided hair do. Dr. Jan thinks about having hair extensions to accomplish the look. Betsy doesn’t like the smock look, but Dr. Jan thinks it’s a good look for those who want to have an extra serving at dinner. 11) Jack Daniels and having babies. Betsy discusses the crazy medicating ideas of someone having a baby in Colorado. 12) Latest presidential candidate for the UGC. Betsy will get the latest candidate portfolio for president of the fan club of UGC. 13) Happy trails.
