I changed the key & wrote the lyrics all by myself, plus every voice you hear in that recording is mine. The pictures are all me also... and as it's kind of a raised tone song hehe, I tried to use pictures that fitted... I'm singing the whole way long, everything, even the backup vocals, so it's a really personal version, for that including my lyrics and photos, so it's like sharing a bit of myself. Interview Transcript: Jinny Chang, FTV: How far down the road are you really towards making the kind of music you want? Mariah Carey: It's kind of like the second part of my life in a way. I don't mean that in terms of years or anything like that. I mean that in terms of my outlook on life and where I'm at just spiritually, emotionally. And just in terms of having fun and allowing that to show in music. There are songs in this record like "Bye Bye" that you know I feel like even if you're not a fan of mine and you've gone through something you've lost, a family member or a loved one, either they passed away or they're just not in life anymore, songs like that can help you cope. "Bye Bye" is a song cowritten by American singer Mariah Carey, Johnta Austin and Stargate for Carey's eleventh studio album, E=MC², and is the second single from the album. The single was produced by Carey and Stargate. The song premiered on radio April 7, 2008 and has been played on various radio stations in the United States, according to Mediabase.[6] The single became available to download at iTunes on April 14, 2008.[1] Carey first performed "Bye Bye" on T4 4Music and performed it again live on April 14, 2008, the single's digital release date, on The Oprah Winfrey Show and then again, two days later, on American Idol season 7 on April 16. Carey performed the song on Good Morning America on April 25, 2008. The single officially went for adds on April 22, 2008 on Mainstream and Rhythm/Crossover stations. Justin Francis is the director of the video. Carey was scheduled to appear in person on TRL and BET's 106 the premiere was then re-scheduled and Carey's official website said that Carey will appear on TRL as well as BET's 106 but that also got canceled. As of May, 2008; the video is still awaiting release. It has been stated by Carey herself that the video for "Bye Bye" will have a sequel, which will be the video for the next single "Love Story" (Carey did the same thing on her previous album with the videos for It's Like That and We Belong Together). Her husband Nick Cannon, plays her lover and will appear in both videos. The video for "Bye Bye" premiered on Comcast at midnight on Monday, May 5, 2008. It is somewhat different from the clip on TRL, particularly the part when she sings the first verse.
