Duvall Returns to 'Godfather' Franchise
from Cinematical August 09, 2008
Filed under: Classics, Drama, Casting, Paramount, Home Entertainment, Remakes and Sequels Too much merchandising can saturate the classiness of a film, but I still think any actor who has played an iconic character should stick with that role through and through. Decades ago I was down for any movie star reprising a role for an animated spin-off (Mary Steenburgen, you're constantly giving me reasons to love you), and today I support anybody who follows his or her character to the world of video games. So, regardless of whether or not Francis Ford Coppola approves, kudos to Robert Duvall for being involved with Electronic Arts' upcoming game version of The Godfather II. While other actors from the Godfather sequel have at least allowed their likenesses to be represented, just as they had with The Godfather: The Game before, Duvall's role in the game is more significant. Variety reports that his character, Tom Hagen, features prominently as an adviser to the player, and Duvall is recording new voiceover dialogue for this purpose. As with the first game, Al Pacino has chosen to not be involved (he's obviously holding out for that Scent of a Woman game to mark his video game voice work debut).Continue reading Duvall Returns to 'Godfather' Franchise Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

We had a chance yesterday to sit down with id's John Carmack and Tim Willits as well as Electronic Arts' David DeMartini to talk over the freshly minted deal between Electronic Arts and id Software. The deal, he tells us, is for just Rage. id has never, apparently, signed a multi-game deal with a publisher. In fact, Activision is still signed to release the next Wolfenstein. Check out our four -part interview to hear the three talk about the deal, id's new engine and new game, the future of Doom and other interesting tidbits.

James Wan Directs 'Dead Space' Trailer
from Cinematical July 15, 2008
Filed under: Horror, Sci-Fi Jessica Barnes just told us about a script review for Paul W.S. Anderson's Castlevania, for example. We hear less often about filmmakers making the leap, unless it's an adaptation of a big budget tentpole. All that to preface the news that Saw director James Wan has made a trailer for the upcoming science fiction / horror game Dead Space, due out on multiple platforms in late October. Dread Central has the evocative trailer for the game about alien hostiles, dead passengers, and a desperate fight to survive. Evidently Wan didn't shoot any original footage for the trailer; he simply cut together an intriguing series of scenes that make it plain what the game is about. Dead Space will come out just in time to compete with Saw V, which carries Wan's name as executive producer, and continues his string of death-related titles (Dead Silence, which was fair to middling, and Death Sentence, a very solid, pulpy vigilante flick with Kevin Bacon that was unfairly ignored). Wan and Leigh Whannell have also been linked to Brash Entertainment's development of a video game based on Saw. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Announcing the launch of our new dating podcast, Lovin' Out Loud! Also, Microsoft may or may not build content filtering into the Zune, by which we mean "probably will." Also, should judges decide the intent of technology in awarding boffo-sized judgments against P2P search engines? And on that note, we're off to order some pizza online.

Buzz Out Loud 719: Yotta yotta yotta
from Buzz Out Loud from CNET May 07, 2008
There's a lot of storage headed your way in the coming years. A lotta, in fact. We'd even go so far as to say it's a yotta. Byte. In other news, no one in the tech industry will be taking a vacation between June 15 and July 12, due to the second coming of the iPhone, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu is getting behind a more democratic music industry. Try that one on for size, RIAA.

Boom Blox Hits Next Week, New Trailer Hits Now [Media]
from Kotaku April 30, 2008
I'm still a little confused about how exactly Steven Spielberg was involved in this project. I mean, was it like him drinking a copy of coffee and saying "Hey we should make a game with dominoes and shit" and then EA Casual turned it into something playable?
