The Saboteur to be Scored by Golden Globe Nominated Composer

EA and Pandemic Studios upcoming noir World War II thriller The Saboteur has been a little under the radar, but looks to have all of the force of any AAA production game. The game takes place in Vichy Paris, France, during Nazi occupation in WWII. To set the tone and help establish the game s themes Pandemic enlisted the help of Golden Globe and Emmy nominated composer Christopher Young, who has scored Spiderman 3 and the soon to be released Creation. “I had tremendous confidence in knowing that once the defining theme to The Saboteur was left in Christopher Young’s hands, we would receive ground breaking results. His rich experience and his unique talent takes EA’s latest franchise to new heights,” said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music at Electronic Arts. “The Saboteur’s visually striking environments were a major inspiration for me when composing,” said Christopher Young, composer. “The theme is a combination of The Saboteur’s unique blend of artistry and storyline mixed with the confusion, suspense, excitement and social temperament of the time period. It’s mysterious and dark but filled with a subtle feeling of hope.” The Saboteur has had a little less exposure than say, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, and I wouldn t be surprised if you do not have the full scoop on the game. Here s the gist: The Saboteur is set in World War II France and takes players through the seedy underbelly of Paris as hero Sean Devlin sets off on a revenge mission. Inspired by a true story, The Saboteur stars Sean Devlin who, motivated by personal revenge, fights, climbs, and races through open-world Paris, sneaking into the heart of the Nazi operations and sabotaging their every move. With the help of the French Resistance, the British intelligence, an arsenal of weaponry, street smarts and brawn, players will exact revenge on those who get in his way. From derailing trains and blowing up zeppelins to scaling famous Parisian landmarks, this action hero uses a broad range of weapons, explosives and vehicles to get the job done. The Saboteur will be released next week on Tuesday, December 8th in North America and tomorrow, December 4th in Europe and other countries across the world. EA’s Next Medal of Honor to be “Modern”

2007 s Medal of Honor Airborne was the latest in the Medal of Honor series, and although it took a genuinely respectable approach to the tired WWII shooter genre, Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare came out within the same month and easily overshadowed the game. Since Airborne, EA has been pretty mum on a new iteration of Medal of Honor until now. Electronic Arts today announced a new Medal of Honor, which leaves the overplayed WWII setting and focuses on modern-day Afghanistan. Players will be put in the shoes of a Tier 1 Operator, which is apparently a real military entity. EA is very serious about the multiplayer as well and is recruiting DICE, the developers of the Battlefield series. “When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today’s war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war.” said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer, Medal of Honor. “We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience.” “EA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers’ story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today’s war and today’s elite soldiers via today’s most relevant medium – videogames,” said Sean Decker, VP and General Manager of EALA. “We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE. Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre.” EA no doubt saw the success of the Call of Duty series going modern and wanted a piece of the pie. It does not look like a cash-in either because it looks like EA wants to win some hearts back over to their side. I know I have never even heard of a Tier 1 Operator and I consider myself relatively well-informed, but playing as one sounds really really cool. EA also says the game is inspired by today s most elite American soldier and takes a look at his will, mindset and uncompromising professionalism. Sounds dark and gritty. The Rock Band franchise has been around for 2 years now and has seen two regular iterations, one with the Beatles and most recently, LEGO Rock Band. It has seen downloadable track packs each week and boasts the largest collection of songs in the rhythm game genre with over 1,000 total. That s a long way since our 591 count in March this year. Alex Rigopulos, the co-founder and CEO of Harmonix said When we launched Rock Band two years ago, we made a promise to create a music gaming experience that delivered on a weekly basis more songs and artists than ever imagined. We’re extremely proud to pass this remarkable milestone of over 1,000 songs in Rock Band and will continue to innovate and bring more of the best music to Rock Band players all over the world. To see the complete list of all 1,000 songs, go here. As a side note, 16 gamers will play Rock Band in Houston, Texas for 90-hours straight, which will set the Gamer s Guinness World Record for Longest Relay Rock Band Concert (funny, I didn t know there was an entry for that). The group will be raising money for charity.
