Wesley Clark on CBS’s - FTN
from Where's the Outrage? July 01, 2008
There has been this dust up over Wesley Clark s comments. So, I figured that I would go to CBS news and find out what he said. So, what did General Clark say that was bad? General Clark is correct. Being in the Vietnam, doesn t make anyone more qualified to be president of the US. I continue to say that the qualifications for president are written in our Constitution. From Article II, section 1 - No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States. For this election, those are the qualifications. You don t have to be in the military. You don t have to believe in X, Y or Z. I think that this is the republicans again trying to distract us for the real issues. ShareThis

The Economy, Capitalism and the Candidates
from Where's the Outrage? June 29, 2008
There s been a lot of speculation on who Senator John McCain then Senator Barack Obama would choose as their running mates. Almost everyone with a computer has speculated on who could be a possible running mate. Thomas Friedman, from the New York Times, has thrown his hat into the ring. Friedman presents some good evidence to show that our economy is in significant trouble. I think anyone with a couple brain cells that are firing should be able to see the decline of the American economy. We manufacture almost nothing in this country anymore. Our banking industry is in shambles. The auto industry is hanging on by a thread. Heck, a German company has offered to buy Anheuser-Busch. Somehow over the last 20 years, money and not value has become the goal. For example, we see these nebulous corporations buy up nursing homes. At first, you scratch your head. Then you see them operate. Like a spider who wraps his victim in silk before sucking out all of the nutrients, these human vampires remove all the value out of the nursing home. They sell off CT scanners and x-ray machines. They outsource x-rays. Residents who used to be able to get an x-ray within minutes now have to wait hours or days. All experienced nurses are either fired or pushed out. They re replaced by a new registered nurses or even nurses aides. Telephones which used to be answered by a real person are now answered by a machine. (Press one if you want resident directory.) I m sure there are some that look at this is change. I would argue that this is not change for the better. With this type of change only the moneymakers are happy. Everyone else loses out. This is what has been happening in our country with almost every industry. This gives me an opportunity to insert a clip from the Bill Moyers Journal. This clip is from about six or eight months ago. Bill Moyers chats with Benjamin Barber. He is the author of a new book called Consumed. They discussed the problems with capitalism. Back to my original subject, vice presidential candidates. Thomas Friedman has been wrong more times on the Iraq war that I m sure either he or I want to count. I think he is correct about the economy but incorrect about the choice of running mates. He suspects that each candidate will choose an economic guru as his running mate. Although, the economy will continue to be an important subject in the selection I do not believe that the candidates will choose someone because of their economic expertise. (If they were to choose someone with economic expertise, Barack Obama would likely choose someone like Senator Chris Dodd. John McCain would probably to someone like former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.) I still think that John McCain will try to someone who will excite the Republican base and who will appear more youthful. I believe that Barack Obama will choose someone who has foreign-policy and military expertise. ShareThis

Fox plays the angry Black Woman card
from Where's the Outrage? June 21, 2008
OH my. Carl Thomas of Fox News plays the race card big time. In past we ve seen some people who ve been subtle in their racism. This is not subtle. When you begin to list black women on TV and then label all of them as angry black women you are playing the race card. Of course, the purpose of this diatribe is to place Michelle Obama in the category of angry black women. (You can watch her on The View being anything but angry.) ShareThis

Obama sock puppet
from Where's the Outrage? June 14, 2008
As we all know, we haven t fixed the race problem yet. It doesn t look like we will fix that problem anytime soon. Some company out of Utah is selling an Obama sock puppet which, of course, looks like a monkey. It is at times like these when I m sorry that we don t have public floggings. Truly despicable. From TP: Last month, ThinkProgress noted that a bar owner in Georgia was selling t-shirts comparing Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) to Curious George; last week, the Black Congressional Caucus Foundation received a t-shirt in the mail featuring a similar image. Continuing this racially-charged theme, a stuffed monkey toy called “The Sock Obama” has now been made available online: TheSockObama™ is made with high quality knit materials to capture the nostalgic look of the Sock Monkey that we all know and love. Staying true to his root, he is hand stuffed with just enough filling to give him a firm, but huggable feel. The removable suit jacket offers two looks for this future President - All Business or Hands On. (more ) ShareThis

POD: Yes AGAIN WE CALL FOR WAR - AGAINST The WAR On US
from BadGalsRadio - RootsRock since 99' June 13, 2008
Yes Again WE CALL FOR WAR - AGAINST WAR ! War is a terrible thing and because we have seen the ramifications of this war, we are more willing to talk about the End of War. Why do we have to suffer the Dead-end result of Racist, Poverty Ridden relations with society ? why should We be the scapegoats for all that is wrong ? Just this past weekend we ran a story on Amy Winehouse and her totally racist little video song; it was par for the course from what we can see of Ms. Amyturd. It s clear that her drug addicted incoherent drama binges; filmed by her golddigging husband blake - only clarify that White is the Color of Choice; for society. She can come out with a song using the simple melody of a childrens song and turn it into a racist taunt - caught on tape . She can Smoke Crack on Tape ; yet nothing is said, basically. why is that ? Robert Mugabe on the other hand, is a turd of a different bitter type. he steals food rations from Schoolkids to pass out at his political rallys; to people too hungry to resist his murderous regime. We are advocating for Pennies for Bobby Turd . We think if enough pennies are melted down and a huge copper suppository created - we just may be able to Move Him Out As The Ass of Zimbabwe US Tricky Turd George Bush and his Bilderburg buddies held their annual conference in New York recently and it appears their plan is to steadily increase the cost of petrol, food and relevant people needs; until they have created a false global emergency; large enough that they can take over total management of society. Remember Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izSUgDfw_eM We ask again, Is This the Type of World We Want to Live In ? and Leave for Our Decendants ? We think NOT - so unite with us and SAY NO To WAR Against US; The People of This Planet. we ve surveyed the landscape widely; and it s sorely clear that if you don t say no today, tomorrow there may be no way. David Brooks and Applebees
from Where's the Outrage? June 04, 2008
David Brooks is an interesting right wing pundit. There are times when he actually makes sense. There are times when I agree with him. He isn t like William Krystal who is wrong almost all of the time. So, you and I need to read his stuff carefully. Yesterday, on MSNBC, David Brooks was channeling his right wing talking points from 2000. Remember when everyone was talking about what a great guy George W. Bush was. He was so great you just felt like you could sit down and have a beer with him? Remember those? Of course, the inference was that Al Gore wasn t a great guy. Al Gore was too upper crust to have a beer or the beer would be one that you couldn t pronounce. David Brooks pulled that one out of his back pocket. Barack Obama was an okay candidate but he was too stiff. He was too upper crust. (and here s the twist) Brooks stated, Obama s problem is he doesn t seem like the kind of guy who could go into an Applebee s salad bar, and people think he fits in naturally there. Look I like a $75 steak that melts in your mouth with a $100 bottle of a dry favorful Carbernet Sauvignon like Robert Mondavi Reserve. Now, that s good eating. I also like going with my grandson to Applebees. The Double Crunch Shrimp is great. There is also a steak and parmesan combination that is fantastic. It is possible to be able to eat at a nice restaurant every once in a while and still enjoy a chain like Applebees. Of course, David Brooks hasn t been to Applebees. Their restaurants are made all about the same. There is a centrally located bar. Not a salad bar but a real bar. The tables are arranged in a large horseshoe shape around the bar. There is no salad bar. None. David Brooks has revealed more about himself than about Applebees or Barack Obama. Hasn t he. C L has this story. So does Media Matters. ShareThis

Another bad day for Senator McCain
from Where's the Outrage? May 28, 2008
As I outlined earlier, McCain had a really bad week last week BUT that appears to be nothing compared to the way that this week has started off. Phil Gramm, former Texas Senator and presidential candidate, is a lobbyist for UBS and a McCain economic adviser. Gramm is credited with the deregulation reform which may have led to the current subprime mortgage crisis. TPM: Below I noted MSNBC s story tonight about how fmr. Sen. Phil Gramm (McCain s economics advisor) was advising him on his subprime mortgage bailout policy while Gramm was also a registered lobbyist for the Swiss bank UBS. Now, it s clear from the report that UBS had some exposure on the subprime front. But I wasn t aware of the true extent of it. TPM Reader KB sends in articles Businessweek and Forbes that show just how big a player UBS was. Forbes says that UBS is among the banks worst hit by the global credit crisis, particularly in their direct exposure to the US subprime market. According to Forbes, UBS has some $37 billion in write-downs on assets tied to bad US mortgages. In other words, the bank s very life appears to be on the line in how the US government chooses to handle the matter. As MSNBC reported, UBS deregistered Gramm as a lobbyist for the company on April 18th, though he continues to serve as a vice chairman of the bank. But that was fully a month after McCain s speech outlining his own approach to the crisis. ShareThis

Hillary Clinton is now in Never Never Land
from Where's the Outrage? May 22, 2008
Senator Hillary Clinton has really been through a lot over the last 6 months. In November of 2007, she was the front runner by a long margin in the democratic race. She was able to look over the Republican field and know that she was smart enough and political enough to beat any of the Republicans in the general election. She was going to be the next president of the United States. Well, that was 6 months ago. She lost Iowa but had a nice come back in New Hampshire. She split Super Tuesday - not so good. She then lost 12 or 13 contests in a row. Just like that, she went from front runner to runner up. Hillary Clinton has tried everything that she can to bridge the gap. She has pulled out the 3 am commercial. She has sat down the man who through his publishing empire tried to bring down her husband. She has flat out and out lied about her trip to Bosnia. She has quoted Karl Rove as if Democrats would believe that he was a credible source. Yesterday, Senator Clinton spoke in Boca Raton, Fl: Fortunately, in each successive generation, this nation was blessed by men and women who refused to accept their assigned place as second-class citizens. Men and women who saw America not as it was, but as it could and should be, and committed themselves to extending the frontiers of our democracy. The abolitionists and all who fought to end slavery and ensure freedom came with the full right of citizenship. The tenacious women and a few brave men who gathered at the Seneca Falls convention back in 1848 to demand the right to vote. It took more than 70 years of struggle, setbacks, and grinding hard work and only one of those original suffragists lived to see women cast their ballots. There are women here today – as with my own mother – who were born before the Constitution granted us the right to vote. This is not something lost in the mists of memory and history; this is real. The generations here in this room have seen change. The men and women who knew their Constitutional right to vote meant little when poll taxes and literacy tests, violence, and intimidation made it impossible to exercise their right, so they marched and protested, faced dogs and tear gas, knelt down on that bridge in Selma to pray and were beaten within an inch of their lives. What is she talking about you ask? Seating the delegates for Florida and Michigan. Throughout this diatribe Ms. Clinton acts as if Florida and Michigan were forced to move their primaries up. She doesn t ever acknowledge that it was Florida and Michigan who were hell bent on moving their primary date. She never mentions that the Democratic National Committee begged Florida and Michigan to stay where they were but they didn t. They both saw themselves as King makers. (It would have been very interesting if instead of trying to move their primaries up they both sought to move their primaries back into May.) Back in September, the candidates had to agree to honor the spanking that Florida and Michigan were going to take or the violator would not be allowed to campaign in any of the first 4 contests. We believe Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina play a unique and special role in the nominating process, said Clinton campaign manager Patti Sollis Doyle. And we believe the DNC’s rules and its calendar provide the necessary structure to respect and honor that role. Thus, we will be signing the pledge to adhere to the DNC approved nominating calendar. Where is this part in her speech? Where is the part about sticking with the rules not just when they service you but throughout the process? I continue to be more and more disappointed with Senator Clinton. I thought that she was on our side. A progressive. Maybe the stress of going from front runner to runner up has been too much. Maybe this is what it looks like when Hillary Clinton loses her marbles. ShareThis
