Im Jahre 1968 gr ndete Gitarrist Jimmy Page zusammen mit Bassist John Paul Jones, S nger Robert Plant und Drummer John Bonham eine Band, die als Led Zeppelin in die Geschichte der Popmusik einging. Deren erstes Album erreichte 1969 in den Charts Platz 10, und ihre Beliebtheit wuchs mit jeder neuen Aufnahme. 1975 waren sie die erste K nstlergruppe, die 6 Alben gleichzeitig in den Charts platziert hatte. Doch die dunklere Seite von Led Zeppelin, insbesondere ihr Ruf als eine der ma losesten Rock Bands, holte sie ein. In den 1970-iger Jahren ereignete sich ausserdem eine Reihe von Trag dien, die schlie lich zur Aufl sung der Tonk nstler-Gruppe f hrten. Ein Autounfall auf einer griechischen Insel kostete Plant 1975 beinahe ein Bein und zwang ihn sowie das gesamte Ensemble zu einer fast zweij hrigen Pause. 1977 starb auch noch Plants zwei Jahre alter Sohn Karac an einer Virusinfektion. Die Musiker verloren an Schaffenskraft, und w hrend der Proben f r eine Amerika-Tour ereignete sich am 25. September 1980 ein weiteres Desaster: Drummer John Bonham starb nach exzessivem Alkoholmissbrauch. Da er f r Led Zeppelin unersetzbar war, l ste sich die Gruppe auf. Ungeachtet dieser Schicksalsschl ge hat sich die Band einen unausl schlichen Platz in der Rockszene erspielt, was schon daraus zu ersehen ist, dass sie in der Anzahl der verkauften Platten nur von den Beatles bertroffen wurde.
