Pretty amazing what can be achieved in a single day with no budget. Yes, we can get into a discussion about what constitutes no budget, but still… by Sebastian Lopez: This is what i achieved after 20 exhausting hours of shooting on a green screen stage in Buenos Aires, in a single day. No budget at all; just me and some friends. I composited, did the FX and everything else later on After Effects. My good friend Colin Devlin along with Brian Byrne created the amazing soundtrack you’ll hear on it.

Monday 8:20 Album of the week: Smokey Robinson

He's been in the music making business for 50 years, and has released many great albums. Smokey is back. The King of Motown made around 25 hit singles with the Miracles and another 20-plus as a solo act. He's still going and this album has him writing all but two tracks, co-producing and mixing. Is it worth the effort -- for a man who doesn't need to make any more albums -- to have it said that he has 'made his mark'? Smokey doesn't just go through the motions.

Tracing our family roots is a popular pastime. Most of us are curious about the people and places that made us who we are today. Many of you can trace your family history back hundreds of years -- but how many of you know about your 'deep ancestry', that is, looking back 60,000 years. A five year study called the Genographic Project, launched by National Geographic and IBM, has done just that. Project director Dr Spencer Wells is in Australia, to reveal the results of 100 DNA tests conducted in Australia in October. He is also Explorer in Residence with the National Geographic Society.

Monday 7:42 Health and hospital reform: Anna Bligh
from RN Breakfast - separate stories on December 06, 2009

Health and hospital reform remains one of the big unfulfilled promises of Kevin Rudd's first term. During the 2007 election campaign he announced the Commonwealth would be prepared to assume responsibility for all 750 public hospitals if the states had failed to fix the system and reduce waiting lists by the middle of this year. The takeover threat was never carried out. Instead, the Prime Minister set up the Health and Hospitals Reform Commission to look at a complete redesign of the public health system. Since its final report in June of this year, the PM and his health minister have embarked on a national roadshow, visiting more than 20 hospitals to discuss the Commission's 100-plus recommendations. They include a plan for Canberra to fund all outpatient services and emergency department admissions, which could, in turn, lead to a complete Commonwealth takeover. Kevin Rudd will provide a progress report to the state and territory leaders at today's COAG meeting in Brisbane. The talks will be hosted by Queensland premier Anna Bligh, who has her own health reform agenda that she will put to her fellow leaders.

Some sectors of the local tourism industry might be suffering a downturn but when it comes to cruising, it's a booming industry. The latest Access Economics report into the Australian cruise industry, out today, shows that cruising is a standout performer, its contribution to the national economy rising 54% to $1.2 billion dollars last year. And the predictions are that the industry will grow at the rate of 7% a year over the next decade. But there are problems hindering the sector's growth, particularly when it comes to ports and issues like gaming, customs regulations and disease control. The Access report was commissioned by Carnival Australia, part of the largest cruise group in the world.

Last month on Breakfast, we spoke with cattle farmers Matt and Sandra Ireson. They run a property at Booligal in the New South Wales Riverina. The Iresons are among the hundreds of farming families who rely on the lower Lachlan River for their water supply. But the river is running dry. Heartbreaking drought and a contentious decision by the New South Wales Government to stop the River at Condobolin has slowed the Lachlan to just a trickle. With the emissions trading legislation again rejected in the Senate and the start this week of the Copenhagen climate conference, we thought it timely to return to tiny Booligal to see how stricken farmers are coping.
