Yesterday I woke up extra early to pack my back-pack for the week... went to work at Epic FU for the day. And after 7pm took the 720 to Santa Monica, then the Rapid 3 to LAX, and a free shuttle to the Spirit terminal... I didn't sleep much at all on the overnight flight... and when the plane finally landed in Detroit it had been over two months since getting to hold Erica :P She was taping while waiting at baggage claim, and I was taping while coming down the escalator. I interviewed Michelle Ellsworth before the premiere of her work http://www.tifprabap.org/ at Dance Theater Workshop in NYC. She talked about her journey as dance soloist making connection between technology, religions and humanness. Dance-tech.net and VJ-U interviewed intermedia artist Marya Ciarrocchi at Dance Theater Workshop in NYC. She is a New York City based video designer and installation artist. She has created video and projection design for such choreographers as Wally Cardona, Morph: Live Remix, Grisha Coleman, echo :: system, Merce Cunningham, Event, Bebe Miller, Landing/Place, for which she won a 2006 Bessie Award, Donna Uchizono, Approaching Green, and for such theater productions as On The Way to Timbuktu (Ensemble Studio Theater), written by Petronia Paley and directed by Talvin Wilks , Elvis People (New World Stages) written by Doug Grissom and directed by Henry Wishcamper, and Relativity (Ensemble Studio Theater), written by Cassandra Medley and directed by Talvin Wilks. Additionally, she was a projection artist on Wendell K. Harrington's design team for the Illuminating Bolcom Festival (Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis). Her video installations have been exhibited at the Hammer Museum, Chashama, Dance Theater Workshop, and the Westbeth Gallery. Upcoming projects include projection design for Ripetime (Antigone) and a new collaboration with Bebe Miller (Necessary Beauty, The Wexner Center). She is a frequent speaker at conferences on the subject of new technological developments in the performing arts and has conducted both technical and theoretical lectures on this subject. Ciarrocchi holds a BFA in Dance from SUNY Purchase and an MFA in Computer Art from the School of Visual Arts and is an assistant professor in the MFA New Media and Performance Program at Long Island University.
