The winner will represent central Seattle, where several high poverty schools have been closed in recent years. KUOW's Phyllis Fletcher has this profile of the candidates. King County's Unopposed Election Races Election season in King County brings lots of attack ads and bitter debates between candidates. But some of this year's races aren't exactly nail biters. Most of the candidates for King County Council are running unopposed. Even so, they've raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to get re elected. KUOW's John Ryan reports. 12:20 p.m. Heart of Dryness James Workman thought he knew about dealing with drought. He advised countries around the world on water policy. Mrs. Jacqueline Eng. Musyoki, Water Services Trust Fund describes the current emergency in Kenya to Harriette Bentil, Daily Graphic, Ghana. She talks about the current water situation in Kenya. It is "a government emergency". There is a very severe drought and in Nairobi, people get water once in a week. Urban poor are not getting water, and cannot afford to worry about the source of the water, yet, Water operators are "making a kill". Hydropower is not working do to the shortages and this impacts energy availability too. While the Water Services Trust Fund does not have services for emergency, they focus on long-term financing of water services. They have eight water boards in the country to set priorities and they document and share their way of working.
