Minipop: Like I Do
from Insomnia Radio: Daily Dose MP3 Blog September 08, 2008
If I m not mistaken I believe San Francisco indie quartet, Minipop, closed out my South by Southwest 45+ band experience earlier this year in Austin. This picture was taken at Bourbon Rocks during the SFxSXSW party on March 15 around 1:30am in the morning as Minipop put the capper on the big show. Like I Do is the first track on Minipop s last full length album, A New Hope, which was released late last year on independent, Take Root Records. The song is a lush offering of dream-pop and comes to animated life in the beautiful dreamscape created by director Andrew Huang. The video is half live action (less A-Ha, heavier on Smashing Pumpkins), with a tad of Life of Brian-like animation thrown in (e.g. spaceship scooping up bandmates). Its by far one of the best I ve seen this year. You can pick up A New Hope and this track at itunes or e-music. Square: an Alternate Universe
from The Orange Peels: Lost in Orbit April 25, 2006
Square Home Demos. This is how our debut record would have sounded if we hadn't signed with Minty Fresh. During our transition from Allen Clapp and his Orchestra into the Orange Peels, Allen Clapp (vocals, guitar), Larry Winther (drums) and Jilll Pries (bass) recorded an almost-complete version of Square on a four-track cassette recorder. Performed with reckless abandon. Recorded with questionable fidelity. No narration. Includes full demos of: She is Like a Rose, On the Way to Somewhere, I Don't Mind the Rain, Everybody's Gone, All the World Could Pass Me By, and Take Me Over. Also includes a partial demo of Spaghetti-O Western and a live, on-air performance on KFJC of a mid-60s Charlatans song, No. 1, which we were going to cover on the album but didn't.
