Battleship Potemkin is a feature film classic from master Russian director Sergei Eisenstein. The thrust of the movie is a dramatic retelling of the events leading to the Bolshevik Revolution. The film centers on Russian ship Prince Potemkin where a horribly bloody mutiny took place. Eisenstein signals this as the jumping off point for the Revolution. The cast of the film were all amateur hand picked by Eisenstein, and his treatment of people in the film lends more to the character of masses than to individuals. This is truly Eisenstein’s most powerful and lasting work.
