Both things common between him and Noor Jehan :) Its a pity he shifted his focus to Jazz/Pop/Disco rather than classical for which he was best suited as regards talent.

Mehdi Hassan ka Film Dard ka ye geet 1969 mein Popular ho chuka tha isi liay jab 1971 mein BBC nay unko apnay studio mein invite kiya to Gulon mein rung bharay kay baad pehla geet yehi sunanay ki farmayesh ki .. Mujhay Mehdi Hassan zaati taur par pasand to nahi cuz wo awaz ko daba kar gata hay ..like raggae style.. lekin un logono kay liay ye upload kar raha hoon jo kehtay hain kay aap kay paas Rare Gems hain to upload bhi kiya kijay :) P.S. Ye recording us waqt ki hay jab Pakistan mein Color TV ki Transmission start nahi hui thi. So its rare in this sort too ..being his first color recording in a studio anywhere. Khalid Bhai is singing here a beautiful ghazal of Syed Razi Tirmizi (whose name should be familiar to Mehdi Hassan Ghazal lovers by his lovely ghazal Bhooli Bisri Chand Umeedein, Chand Fasanay Yaad aayay) This ghazal is composed by Khalid Asghar himself and it was recorded in the studios of Central Production Unit, Radio Pakistan, Lahore some years ago. However, the pic of Khalid Bhai attached hereby dates back to recent January 2009. Hope you all enjoy this nice ghazal. Part 2 of Program Produced for the Death Anniversary of Madam Noor Jehan.. My upload starts with the Pic of Ustad Fateh Ali Khan (Sitar Nawaz) father of Ustad Nafees Khan sahab who is playing Sitar later in the clip where vocalist is Florence Thomas, another discovery of Sultan Arshad sahab n his team for us.. Florence reminds me of my city-mate Aapa Surayya Multanikar. Both have much in common from the hair-style, the looks, the complexion, same trembling of voice yet stable on Sargam :) Talat Mahmood n to some extent Nahid Niazi were also having this last characteristic mentioned. Sultan sahab said to me n i quote that these are the voices scattered around us and his job was to pick only. However i believe that Sultan sahab n his team is really working hard to groom n tailor the talent around them. Our best wishes with them and all those who are promoting the true (classical-based) music though i find them countable on finger-tips when i look at Indian counterpart friends of mine n promoters :) Dard-e-Dil read karnay ka shukria..Enjoy the music.
